need bimmer advice
hey i have this problem right now dealing wit a used bimmer. Ive never owned a bmw in my life and neither has my whole family its always been hondas so i wouldnt know how they last. Im tryna get this used 06 330i thats just reallly fuckin sweet. but the problem is that it has 63k miles on it and thats SO much for one year and i doubt theres a warranty. he's selling it to me for 25gs including his asantis 19s and plus theres a ALOT of goodies in the car like a couple tvs, JLs and more. is this a good idea on the long run with problems and maintence because i read up somewhere that the 06 and up 3 series were pretty reliable but i could be wrong. didnt know where to ask for help so i decided to come here. good idea? bad idea?

Yeah yeah, we have all of the data from late 05 through now, but that is not a lot for a completely new model still. Also, check the maintenance records, see when he had all of the oil changes and stuff done. Some people will tell you that going by the BMW recommendation is just BMW protecting their bottom line (since they cover maintenance in the US) and you should change oil more often. In Europe, they go just as long, and the driver pays for it, so it isn't BMW who has to absorb that cost, so that justification is BS, but some are still concerned about the length of oil changes. Oh, and I am just making some general points that would apply to all, as for this specific car, I will leave that up to others to tell you ja oder nien. |

If the car was left bonestock and the person who owned had a long commute or was in sales and did a lot of driving I think it could be okay.I think the 06 330i is probably as reliable as the 05.This car seems to have been toyed with (19in wheels allthe electronics and who knows what else) I wouldnt do it.my .02 anyways. I think an unmessed with 330i can easily and reliably make it to over 100,000 miles.

65k miles in one year, that's just too much. I bet the suspension and other things are worn. Without a good maintenance history you should run and never look back.

Yeah, people seem to forget you can get the next model year in the previous year. Considering 08 models are supposed to be released in July, this car the OP is talking about could very well be almost 2 yrs old. If thats the case 30k/yr isnt obsene if someone has a long commute to work. And in addition to that, you know they are highway miles, much less detrimental than city miles in stop and go crap.

I know all the electronics are important to jiggawha since he spent more time listing those features than anything else. The goodies are important to jiggawha because he is young (using vernacular such as wit, 25gs, f'n sweet). The problem is none of those goodies are really worth much. A lot of times you see a decked out car it is done by a kid. My friends call them little boy toys. Those kids spend more time focused on the goodies and not on the car itself. The car is used show off to others and is driven hard in the process of showing off. I bet those 60+k miles are not smooth commuter highway miles.
You are looking at a car with extremely high mileage for its age (at best double national average, at worst quadruple nat. avg.), too many little boy toys and questionable maintenance history. jiggawha, I would run away from this car. No extended warranty would make me want that car. Dont let the toys sway your decision. If its important to you add them on later once you know you have a solid car. |
