Recommend a sports car?

I knows this gets asked quite often so bear with me!

I'm looking for a sports car, it must be rust free, RWD and MUST have ABS.

It will be a third, well fourth car so the budget is roughly £10k.

I would like an Elise but only the late '05 on models have ABS and I'd have to borrow money to afford one which would not be ideal.

I've had an S2000 before and several MX5s and even though a late model S2000 is most likely going to win I would like to try something different and even dare I say quirky?

Suggestions would be appreciated!

If you want an Elise with ABS, why not consider the Vauxhall VX220?

your most obvious choices are s2000 and mx5 i guess. 350z is a good shout. maybe an audi TT too or Merc SLK. vx220 and mr2 are options. also since we on a bmw forum how about:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3820671.htm

if you were it forget the abs rule you could be looking at tvr's and caterhams! ha ha

Its very difficult.

MX5 - sold my last one when I thought I was going to die and I'm unlikely to find another one in the same condition nor do I have the time to repeat the work I did on it..

S2000 - It does tick all the boxes but the suspension is compromised and needs work to correct.

350Z - I'd never even thought of owning one, only Nissan thats ever interested me was the S15 which for some unknown reason seems a lot less chav.

VX220 - Perfect, but don't like them, and it can't just be the badge.

Z4 - Does fit the bill and the reports about handling are promising but the reliability seems shocking.

My wife likes the Boxster and theyre as cheap as chips but the engineering just seems wrong?

I missed the boxster! Another good shout. Not heard of any big faults with it...?

What about SLK or MR2?

TT i suppose is 4wd but still a good car.

I have a strange love for mk2 escorts! not exactly a sports car i guess, and not sure if you can get them for 10k but there are some crazy videos of 600hp cosworth mk2's on youtube. Proper boys toy!

Don't even start me on old Fords, I sold this some years ago to buy a house, it would be worth many times what I sold it for today..

depends what youre comparing it to though. granted its not an s2000 or an mx5 or a boxster etc but for 10k you'd get a very good example. They are quick enough too.

perhaps more of lazy drive than the former but the TT im sure fits the bill for many.

The old TT is a poor car to drive. It's all image.

If you are looking for a sports car like the Elise, the TT just doesn't come into the picture at all.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3748659.htm

depreciation ay, bit more for a convertible granted but OP didnt mention convertible specifically.

to be fair i agree the tt isnt in line with s2000 and mx5.....but i still like them, especially the new ones.

A random choice but what about a Clio V6?

There is a good looking one on autotrader for £8.5k. http://autotrader.mobi/used-cars/adv...teb5qdt3jvnrs7

Don't think you will ever lose much on that and it is one of those cars.

Doesn't look like a GT spec car although I can't be 100% sure from the photos/description. GT spec will come with an upgraded BOSE stereo with multi-CD in the DASH (not BOOT). Hasn't got the lovely RAYS alloys either.

I'm in exactly the same situation with the same budget. I fancied an s2 elise but after looking at a few it became apparent an acceptable one would cost more. I've decided a 986 boxster s is what's needed.

It's not as fast as it looks but it is great fun.

Really turns head and is a future classic.
