The Step transmission is well....fantastic
Throughout the last week i have parked my 335 due to my miles getting up there (4600) already. My 335 is manual while my girlfriends is Step with the paddle shifters. I have been driving her car for the last week and i absolutely love it. Its amazing the difference a transmission makes in the way a car feels. Today i took her 335 on a roadtrip about 100 miles away and the car is absolute silk. Her car may feel way smoother than mine cause i have KW coils and 19 in rims but still. I looked down at the speddo one time and i was going 95 and i felt like i was going 40.
I love how the tranny rev matches automatically when you down shift, I dont know if im in love the the transmission because my 6MT is so jerky or what. I still have not done the CDV mod which is what i may need to do. Im not giving her car back |

its the wheels man. whenever i drive my friends 328 with 16's and loaners with 16's it feels totally smoother compared to my 19's and a drop.

after test driving both a stick and step, thats exactly why i decided to go with step. Its smooth, shifts fast and dosnt suck balls like stick does in LA traffic. I have around 8500miles on mine now and am still happy with my decision. Ofcourse I do get the itch sometimes but you cant have your cake and eat it too. Even tho that phrase still makes zero sense to me lol

My guess is one more page before people start going for each other's jugulars.
But seriously...why start these step is awesome/stick is awesome threads? Every single one ends up in a flame fest. |

I def. like my step tranny but in no way will I say I love it. Since I have a 325i I don't think I ever have the tranny in normal "D", I'm always in "DS" just to get a sportier feel. Switching to the full "auto manual" mode is fun for about 6 blocks then gets annoying, I would imagine the paddles are wayy better.
The step tranny blows away any normal auto tranny for sure. Although I think I'll be getting a manual for the next ride. I just miss my last car that was a 6spd and I was kinda jelous at the last area meet of the guys with a 6spd, so manual here I come on the next ride.

Manual is alot more fun to drive than auto when you want to fly around corners and rev match downshift. I have always been a manual guy but I did notice the 6spd takes the luxury feel away from the car. The auto in this vehicle is impressive and its easy to deal with for me because the shift delay is very short. If it was just a regular auto tranny then forget it , manual all the way.
