Track/AutoX tire/rim setup on the M?

I am starting to get into the NY AutoX season as well as planning on getting track time under my belt, and hopefully getting involved in timed events over the summer. I've read a little about using the M3 18" rim setup with different tires for the track/racing but was hoping to get some suggestions/pointers from those of you with much more experience!

I love the M and my first autoX was the most fun I've ever had driving a car period. I've made the decision I want to get more serious about this and realize the stock tires and setup are not going to cut it.

Ill see how much more i can find with the search but in the meantime thanks for your input!!

I am looking for your suggestions on tires/rims/pressures etc... As far as $$ go I simply cannot afford $3500 setups that I wish I could, but would like to get something mid range.

Not sure about setup, trying to get info myself on this, but while 18" rims/tires are probably better for the track (lighter weight, more tire choices and likely cheaper tire choices), if you want to autoX in stock class, the rims need to be stock size and width and within a certain tolerance for offset as well. Using an 18" rim with SCCA will bump you into a modified class.

you know my realxed sunday mindset totally forgot about this

For the purose of discussion I would like to entertain a track worth 18" setup as well as something within stock specs, except different compounds/more grip.

I replaced my stock wheels with a set of 18" ARC-8's with Hankook RS3's recently. I'm signed up to DE at Atlanta MotorSports Park next Saturday and Sunday so I'll have an accurate opinion soon. Over the local mountain they felt awesome! (265F/285R)
I must say the sidewall stiffness feels excellent compared to the super stiff (stretched) stock 19's. I really think 18's are more ideal for performance over the 19's. Not just the extra sidewall flex but the reduced weight as well. I'm new to this particular tire but the online reviews are very promising while the price is also a plus.

Any rubbing in the front with the 265's? What wheel widths & offsets did you choose?

I went with Harold's recommendation: ET35 front with a 3 or 5mm spacer and ET27 rear.
http://www.hpashop.com/APEX-Arc-8-Wh...ex-arc8-1M.htm

Unfortunately, I needed to go with more spacer then he recommended as the Motons hit the inside of the front sidewalls with 3mm spacers. A 10mm did the trick up front and nothing in the rear. I gave the car a good workout on some very twisty roads with major elevation changes to see if I had any rubbing and didn't get any at all. It's a tight fit but seems to be fine.

Are you using longer lug nuts when you add the spacer? If so, where do you get them from?

I went with same offset with my Apex wheels all around -- I think et27. No spacer, no rubbing with 265/35-18 front and 285/35-18 rear.

I have 19" Forgestar wheels with Hoosier Racing Tires A6 flavored tires on the car (see below). Yes, you can get an extra set of wheels inside the car). I am going to be installing KW V3 modified to be compliant with SCCA A Stock rules.

you think the no rubbing in the front is because of the camber? i am looking to run your exact setup (thought the ET was 25 and not 27) however i am on a set of KW V3's. I do not want to run spacers and do not want to rub in the fronts.

+1 on the JRZ with no rubbing requirements. Mine is with Eibachs and GC street plates.
I also want to avoid that the tires stick out beyond the fenders.

So MDORPHIN, 9.5 ET22 or ET35 in the front and 10.5 ET27 in the rear?
What brand of tires is that with please?

Thanks.

The 18X9.5 et 22 offset will not rub in the front with a 265 tire and as a matter of fact I even fit a 275 tire with no rubbing on that size wheel. The 265 felt better though. The 18x10 et25 up front will require a spacer depending on what struts you are running and tire selection.
