Question swapping boot to factory M Series?

I was wondering, does this look stock?

Could I just pull it off like normal, and put the stock M series knob on? Also, where can I pick up the M series knob?

How does one pop this guy off? Or pick up a factory M knob that it came with?

I don't know if the boot is factory, but usually they are connected by a little clip or flange, at the base of the knob. It should separate by tugging the boot down away from the knob, then the knob should unscrew from the linkage. You should be able to order a factory M sport knob or even a 1M knob from any BMW parts department. I believe you can order the knobs online from United BMW as well.

BMW shift knobs simply "snap" onto the shift lever. The shift lever has a fork shape to it, and the knob just pops onto it. Sometimes for a worn knob you can use some (black) RTV silicone to keep it inplace.

You should contact UUC and see how their knob attaches. It probably has a set screw under the shifter boot. You might be able to pull the shifter boot away and see it or feel it. ?

Check out this PDF on how the shifter comes apart.

The factory 1M knob is the ZHP one : 25117896886 available here : http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-18...r-6-speed.aspx

I think this is also available as a knob and boot combo under PN 25118051315 http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/25118051315/ES2217456/

M Sport knob/boot combo IIRC is 25118037304 available here : http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/25118037304/ES47533/

Thanks! I still wonder if I need to replace the boot, or if I can pull this UCC knob off and be OK.

I might see if I can scour the forums for a used one too, save a couple bucks if I can.
