1M and kids

The 1M and children: what are your experiences ?

Other children than mine: lots of staring, pointing and smiling. Always positive. The design (or is it the exuberant VO color?) seems to have some sort of universal appeal.

My sweet pie likes the 1M very much too (below she's with Dakar Yellow gear on a racing track). Often a manic laugh during acceleration (overboost hitting 500Nm) followed by a determined "Again!".

Top Gear magazine issue - January 2012, pp. 143-146 (Dutch version): "Top Gear Awards 2011 - Richard [Hammond]'s Car Of The Year": 1M = Car Of The Year (dubbed "The Drift Meister"). However, page 142 features a picture of the rear side of a red Ferrari FF. Question to my daughter:
"So, is this daddy's car?" [pointing to the Ferrari picture on page 142]
"No, it's the orange one over there." [correctly pointing to the VO 1M picture on page 143]
"Sure about that?"
"Yes, because there is no horse on your car."

When I was a young kid, not able yet to reach for the pedals, my dad often allowed me to "drive" the car into the garage: car on the driveway, climbing on his lap, my head barely reaching over the steering wheel, four hands on the steering-wheel (dad kept the operation fully under control, of course). "Ready? Go!". Fond memories. Passed that "quatre mains" fun on to another generation:
[Imitating to my daughter the serious Dr. Kay Segler voice of the 1M "Step 3" introduction clip] "And now it's your turn" - "Who's the pilot?"
Reply: "MEEEEEE!!!"
Afterwards: "Mummy, I parked the car!".

Yup, the best things in life are free.

How cute! It's always refreshing to get perspective from a kid.

Btw, the link isn't working for the image.

Anytime I take my daughter somewhere I ask her if she wants to take the Wagon (E91) the M or the MINI (R53). So far the MINI still wins the majority but the M is creeping up

Fixed it. Watch the boys drooling because a girl is handling "their" gear.

No kids of my own, but I do find it that when I make a run to the supermarket, or any place where parents often take their kids, there is always constant attention from both kids and adults. Kids do the pointing as you described above - I believe their eyes must be sensitive to such a bright color, because they notice the car right away!

I find the design features and appearance of the car removes the need to write "FREE CANDY" on the side to attract the childrens.

Yeah. But it won't work with substitute 1Ms, such as the RS3.

Nice stories from all over the world!! one story from me, concerning this:

I was at Spa-Francorchamps yesterday, to drive on the circuit during the public day! So we left the track to have lunch at Francorchamps! I just parked the car on the street, then a van from Holland passes, and a child in the van turned the head, to see the 1M!
So, Daddy made an U-turn, the van stops beside of my 1M, and 4 kids came out, took their phones and makes pics of my 1M!!! Really cool, to see that even a 1M is so impressing for people!!

Recognizable reaction of kids in an accelerating E39 M5 (each with a modified exhaust):

Porsche 911 commercial, but the "I'll be back" storyline also applies to the most desired ///M cars. Some kids undoubtedly think likewise about the 1M:

The best thing about a 911 is when that kid is old and rich enough to buy one it will look EXACTLY the SAME!!!!

Our ten year old granddaughter, given the choice, always votes for the 1M as her ride of choice when we take her somewhere.

My kids love it. The 3 year old asks to go for rides. My 8 year old missed the RX8 when I traded it, but told me the other day that now he likes the 1M better.

When we see a yellow warning sign with a curvy arrow, he calls it "the fun sign."

My son looked over the car in greater detail than I when we first saw it at the autoshow.

When I first got my 1M my son ( then 2yrs old) would always insist on riding in that car over the others in the stable. I took it as a subtle compliment... Until one day I decided to clean the interior, I happened onto several dry, licheniformed deposits on the alcantera. Puzzled, I scraped them off and resumed cleaning... This all clicked sometime later when I caught him in the act while driving... When I got home I promptly investigated, and there they were AGAIN! I asked what these were and with the cutest giggle he confessed...
We now all call it the Bogger car...

I was just telling my boyfriend the same thing the other day. Children stare at the car, they always look. Sometimes they make comments like "nice car" " I love your car." Of course some adults admire the car also, but it's more children that stare at it in the wild. I rarely get a glance on the highway from an adult, but children all the time. Maybe we could lobby Hotwheels to make a 1M coupe version. It would be a best seller! Mine isn't even the eye catching VO.

Same here. Have AW with carbon and kids stare and comment when I get my kids at school and pre-school. Parents ask me what car it is. Is it a new model? Also people taking pictures in the mall parkings etc.

According to Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, two kids will also fit in the boot.

Those videos are priceless!

A few days ago I had a small boy run the length of his front yard with the rate of my car as I drove past his house, he was giving me a running race thumbsup I believe. I guess valencia orange brings the fun out in people? ... brings the fun out in cops too!

Two kids and a dog (next to eBay Avenue), as proved by forum member nebby (LA) last October. Sweet.
