close deal questions
Hi
I will be sending out a quote for the following BMW 325 European Delivery: Invoice BMW 325i $25645 Sport package $1455 Xenon $730 Leather $1320 Metallic paint $430 Heated seats $455 Total invoice price: $30035 Dealer profit $1500 Delivery charge $695 Total price: $32230 My questions: 1. Does this look like a reasonable total price? 2. Have I missed anything? 3. What can I expect to pay except for the above listed, such as misc. fees? What is acceptable, what is not. 4. Should I ask for the Lease numbers now or should I do that after getting a good deal? 5. How close to the published BMW FS base rate 0.00255 do you think I should settle for? I noticed that LeaseCompare has a bank offering a moneyfactor of 0.00210. Is it possible to negotiate the rate below BMW FS's base rate? Would appreciate some expert advice!! Thanks, David, soon to be a BMW owner. |

You have an excellently equipped car you're going after. It looks like you have everything covered, car wise, and I think this offer is more than reasonable. Other mandatory items you will need to pay for are sales tax, dealer preparation, title/license, and maybe a small documentation fee. These are locally (in-state) determined, so I can't quote you specifics. Non-mandatory purchases are like upgraded warranties and other dealer add-ons.
First, if you feel satisfied that 1500 above ED sticker is good value to you, then I might suggest starting at about 1000 above and working from there so you'll have some room to work with and might even get a better deal. I'm not sure about your personal negotiating style and the dealership's style, but in general, I recommend staying firm, calm, and always professional. Let them know you're serious, you've got all the info (probably more if you read through this site), and you are giving them a balanced and fair offer. Go in edjucated and confident, ready for business, and I'm sure you can convince them to close the deal on your terms. One thing that is sound advice when getting a car, regardless of new or used or purchasing vs leasing, always negotiate on the price of the car (in your example the $32230) before talking about any financing of any sort. Don't get confused or disorientated if they start talking about monthly payments or leasing terms or what not. The most critical part is establishing the price of the vehicle first. The financing is done on top of that. Period. |

Sales tax
Thanks for the replies!!
Just to confirm, you pay the sales tax on a monthly basis as part of the lease, isn't that true? Or do you pay it for the car when you pick up the car? |

I like how in your long essay, you only spelled "educated" incorrectly. |
