US N54 - different engine part number
Had a look to the BMW parts catalog. US BMW-techs, please confirm that there are 2 different engine part numbers for US 335i's and explain.
6MT's with the higher top-speed option ( S840A ) seem to have a different engine according to the part numbers. 11000415277 default 11000415043 6MT with S840A EU cars seem to have the 11000415043 engine in all configurations. Last edited by e.n335; 06-25-2007 at 04:20 PM.. |

Here's what I know... still trying to find out the main big difference. I also have no idea what high speed synchronisation is either.
If you have an automatic with High Speed Synchronisation (HSS) 11 00 0 415 277 11 00 0 415 278 If you have a manual transmission with HSS 11 00 0 415 043 11 00 0 415 044 If you have a manual transmission without HSS 11 00 0 415 277 11 00 0 415 278 |

High speed synch is what you get with the sport package. Higher top speed limit than non sport cars.

Odd that the automatic with HSS is the same part # as manual without HSS.
BTW - I have manual with HSS and I'm still cooking on the track. The sustained engine stress on the track (road course, not drag strip) pushes my engine temps way beyond anything you ever see on public roads. |

I checked with my dealer and they confirmed that the high speed synch is the sports package where you have the car limited to 155mph instead of the 135mph of the standard non sport cars. Aside from that, there's no other difference in the car. |

I max out my euro 335 on the Autobahn here in germany all the time. It limits exactly at 154mph via GPS. .... it will not let me go more even though i have more power to give.. sux.. i really which the procede i ordered will soon allow for the limiter to be removed....in the meantime im going to try to see if maybe 5th gear will let me pass the 154mph mark

Normally this function would be a different ECU setting, not a different engine part number. Are you sure ?

The difference between the two part numbers might be something as simple as having fittings for attaching the oil cooler. The part numbers given would be consistent with this in pre-March production, i.e. Manual w/HSS (Sport pkg) has the oil cooler, all others do not.

My January 6mt build with cooler has running temperatures at the track of around 285-290.
