Red light cameras
I search all the forums and I cant find a way to show red-light camera's on the nav? I could do this on the pre-cic navigation so I would think the functionality would be there.......

Navigation systems can show you where red light cameras are? Wouldn't showing red light cameras be almost like having a built in radar detector, too?
Where I live, we don't have red light cameras, thankfully. Though I wish we did because people drive like idiots around here. |

I have a pirated copy of a BMW navigation DVD in my E90 and it has the red light cameras added on it but the F30s have a HDD based navigation so your updates are through the dealer so that would be impossible.

Waze app (for iphone or Android peeps) covers all this and more
I use it to compliment my nav. I activate it, turn off voice guidance, so all i get is alerts for police/cameras/etc thru BT audio |

Its not just red lights, in this part of the worlds speed cameras are very, very common, and the red light cameras also check for speed. Having the navigation warn you about them is standard on any TomTom, Garmin, etc.
However, the BMW navigation system has no such facility, and worse, since it has no way of uploading a custom POI (Points Of Interest) database you cannot add them either like you can on any handheld nav unit. The E90 pre-LCI had a DVD based system, where you could copy the contents of the DVD to your HDD, add a custom speed camera database and write a new DVD, but since the E90 LCI this no longer works. Personally I have decided that the Navigation system is just not worth it and ordered without. My TomTom is way cheaper (purchase and map updates), and offers much more functionality. |
