328i 2012, how to make playlist?
Hello all,
I have placed songs on a USB stick in a separate folder. I've created a playlist in windows media player and copied it to the USB stick. When I place the USB stick into the car, it reads all the songs in the folder, but when I move to playlists I see nothing. I have to manually cycle the songs which are placed in alphabetical format . What am I doing wrong, how can I get the playlist to display and load? |

Hello,
Yes I can do that. But there is an option on the list called Playlists. When I click that it says Not Found in gray lettering. So the system supports some sort of playlists, which means that it should load that playlist file and play the songs in that order. But I can't figure out what format it expects the playlist file to be in. I just used itunes on a mac to create a playlist file and Exported it to the USB stick, car still cannot read it. |

The text should look like this: <?wpl version="1.0"?> <smil> <head> <meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Windows Media Player -- 12.0.7601.17514"/> <meta name="ItemCount" content="0"/> <title>Car Playlist</title> </head> <body> <seq> <media src="M.I.A\Bad Girls.mp3"/> Once you have the file open you can manually add songs to the play list by repeating the last line above with the new song title. Of course the folder and filename must be exactly the same as on USB stick |

Hmm, just tried this and the car does not display any entries when I click Playlists.
All I see is "No Entries" I copied three files to the USB stick in the root directory, one .m3u , one .wpl and one .txt Still seeing No Entries. Should I at least see the filename in the playlist even if it can't find the song files? |

Is your USB stick formatted in FAT32? And it reads playlists from m3u files, not wpl or txt.

Yes, I believe it was m3U format. At one point I used iTunes to spit out the playlist, but I remember having to edit the playlist line by line to get it to work properly.
I still have not found a hassle free, seamless way to do it. Now, I use my iPhone connected in the car to play the music. I would prefer to use the USB, but the iPhone play is just less hassle. I think this should be upgraded by BMW, their system should be more flexible with file formats and locations. |
