335/328 Brake Swap
I would like to replace the brake calipers on my 328i with the floating piston calipers from the 335i. Here is what I think is required to do the job...
1. 335i front calipers and pads 2. 335i front rotors 3. 335i rear calipers and pads 4. 335i rear caliper carrier 5. 335i rear dust shields The hubs, brake lines, master cylinders, etc...are all identical. Thus in theory it should be a straight bolt-on upgrade. For the effort you get OEM parts, better front calipers (with pads that can be changed at the track) with larger rotors all around. You also get vented rear rotors that are larger. To be determined - does the car need to be coded for the 335i brakes? So and of you 335i owners who buy a MSport brake kit, may I please purchase your take-off pieces? |

It is a cost/performance debate. How much better performance would I actually see on the track from the Brembos? If not that much more performance, is there value to spending more there?

Well that is a great question! My car will get back from ED end of August, early September. Once it is here I will start planning this project in earnest. In the interim I plan to contact the dealer and get a parts cost estimate for new OEM parts. Then I will calculate a reasonable depreciation for used parts and post a WTB ad in the classifieds.

Very interesting to hear! So from your research, the 335 front caliper would not require a 335 caliper carrier even though the new rotor has a larger diameter? |

From what I am able to tell, and based on my experience with floating piston calipers like the 335i, the caliper bolts directly to the hub and not to a carrier. The part number for the hub is the same for both 328i and 335i. So in theory the caliper should just bolt right up to the holes where the 328i carrier bolted.
