winters in washington/hood river Oregon
Im going to be relocating to southern WA or hood river OR and want some input on whether or not by E90 330i with H R sport springs will be able to make it around during the winter. I do snowboard and bike so will be heading up to Mt. Hood in the winter. Will a good set of winter tires do the job? or should i be looking into all wheel drive vehicles?

I routinely go that route to by pass traffic through government camp. You should do fine with 4 snows except for an occasional snow storm and so long as you are not going up to Timberline. Nevertheless, I went with AWD so I never have to worry about conditions and I can shoot up the mountains when the conditions are the best (right during or after a storm). Many people on this forum will tell you that all you need are 4 snows, but they don't live in a place where you drive essentially sea level to 6000' in an hour. On the other hand one person chonicled his successful climb to Timberline without AWD, but it was more of an expedition than a drive. I assume that H & R Sport springs slightly lower the the car. It's probably less than 1/2" so it wouldn't really make the plowing effect any worse.

Get a 4Runner!!! I'm an avid snowboarder and I have one in addition to my 335i coupe. Never had to chain up and never been stuck going up to the mountain. I've been in the worst white out conditions around!!!

90% of the time in the winter you'll be good to go... Just occasionally though if you are still on your summer tires, you will go no where. Trust me though, during those times you are better off NOT going anywhere. Folks in the Wetside of Washington have no idea how to handle snow or ice. It was pretty funny last winter.

Did you get a job at INSITU? If so they are a cool company to work for or with. I would recomed getting a beater for the winter, the roads up there are kinda steep and I hear it can be bad at times. We had to delay a trip there last year because of the weather, I didnt want to launch my 335 off a mtn road. And Ya people up here cant drive when its dry out, rain is a nightmare and snow forget about it just stay at home.

i don't work for insitu but, will be working with people who currently work their. I was hoping that I could be fine with a set of 17" rims/dunlop wintersport tires for the winter. You work for Boeing?
