From non-staggered to staggered is there anything I need to worry about?
I just got my first 5 series!! Want to upgrade the tires/rims. The 245 45 R18, its the oem Goodyear Eagle LS2 they feel mushy. I like the feel of a firmer sidewall, like on my previous 4.4i X5.
My only question is, Is there anything I need to worry about switching out the OEM tires/rims. I'm changing to another OEM rim/tire combo but it is staggered. Front: 245/40 R18 Rear: 275/35 R18 Tires: Continental Extreme Contact Thanks!!! |

Welcome.
No, there's no problem with putting on staggered wheels, but if the new set is 18", the tires sizes should be 245/45/18 + 275/40/18.

You will be fine with that tire set up as well. I would recommend upgrading to 19 or 20 to get more steering feedback |

OEM F10 staggered tire sizes are:
245/45/18 + 275/40/18 245/40/19 + 275/35/19 245/35/20 + 275/30/20

Why 18"? I'd go 20s if you're going to spend the money. 19s are fine, but tires on 19" wheels are more expensive than 20s. Plus, you'll get the stiff side walls on 20" wheels.

Thank you for helping me not buying OEM sizing.
OK someone is claiming to be selling OEM for that make/model. But they cannot be for that tire sizing.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/110881129691...84.m1423.l2649 I'm sure smaller tires are not good for steptronic transmission and the ABS system as well? Thanks again! |

So I'd look elsewhere.

I really care more about the performance of the tires than the rims. I think chrome rims look great on a BMW. Maybe I'm not a purist for liking chrome. I think oversized (non oem) rims with low aspect ratio are the worst when they obviously don't belong on the vehicle.
