Cop on my tail, dropped it into 4th.. No More Cop!
I downshifted into 4th to slow down... What were you thinking? One thing I have noticed about the 335i is that you have to pay careful attention to how fast you are going. I find myself going over 75 mph and think I am doing 50 pretty often.
I was doing 70 mph when I looked in my rearview mirror and saw a police car gaining on me in my lane. So I downshifted into 4th and didn't hit the brakes so that I didn't give it away that I was slowing down. Looks like I did it in the nick of time before he could pace me at the faster speed. Once he paced me going the speed limit he changed lanes and went right around me. The best thing about the 335i is that most cops don't know what kind of beastly engine lies beneath the hood. My 335i blends into the rest of the 3-series sedans out there and doesn't attract negative attention from the cops the way my old corvette or 350Z did. Got to love the 335i for this reason. Anyone else seem to speed very easily in this car. Have any "oh crap" moments when you realize you are flying and 20+ mph over the speed limit? Dan

I wouldn't say 'most cops don't know how fast the 335i is.' In my experience, I think many police officers, especially Highway Patrol Officers are real car enthusiasts...many of them have modded cars they race on their days off, and I bet a lot of them know all about the 335i.
Anyway, mental note for you next time...don't downshift to 4th; just simply let off the gas and switch lanes to let him fly by you. btw -- your speedo is probably ~ 3-4 mph off (shows faster than you're really going) just like the rest of us so don't sweat it too much if you look down and see you're going 75mph, unless your in a 55mph zone.

I don't drive 80 and only think I'm doing 60. I know how fast I'm going, even when I'm going fast. I don't mind people speeding, but if you don't know you're speeding, then you should evaluate your driving habits. Be safe, don't make any sudden moves, look down the road, and be mindful of your mirrors. It's not a problem to drive fast if you do it safely.

FWIW, LEOs don't give a rats ass if you hit the brakes, they see it all day long. In fact letting the LEOs see brake lights can sometimes be a good thing, shows you are paying attention.

I've heard this too. A lot of them like to see brake lights because it shows that you are aware of them.

Downshifting? Naw, much easier to yank the parking brake.

Many times this is enough to have them just go on by or ignore you altogether.

Im sure it's like that with a bunch of cars- you feel slower than the actually speed the car is travelling at. It's not just the 335 but also 325, 330, etc.

Haha... when I read the thread title I was thinking to myself what the hell is wrong with this guy? I find myself always driving faster in my BMW then I did in my s2k since it feels like i'm really going so much slower then I really am.
