Garage List
Look up "Old School BMW Maintenance Schedule". I know there's a chart somewhere for the N54 too.

i would not pay more than 20 for it. Press the stalk lever to see when next services are going to be displayed. Or call BMW and get the service record. BTW, no one ever sells a car that is not 'very well taken care of'

I think the car is very clean, and is worth more than 20k. All the cosmetic mods, I love it.

What Price did you mean?
I am of course gonna pay more than the carmax. of course.. Because I know that they buy the car at cheaper end price, and bump up the price before they sell it back right?

I'd say around $22,500. The condition and maintenance history is important. Mods mean something to you, so you can put a price on them, but they often don't add value to a vehicle. Use some online pricing tools and get a consensus, then factor in the mods and condition. You probably need to subtract something for the accident, not so much for the actual repair, but the diminished value since it's part of the cars history. Any warranty included? Looks nice, good luck.

All of the mods actually hurt your offer from Carmax. Most buyers are looking for factory cars. Some will be left on but many times they purchase stock parts or just auction the car. This definitely factors in to the offer.

Working at a dealership, not BMW aftermarket mods do not add value to a trade in. They add appeal sure to a buyer, but a very specific buyer. If the wheels and bumper are worth more to you, then you are that buyer. Carmax or any dealership has to value the car to be in market with other 3 series. As most shop online now, regardless of whats on the car, you list cheap to expensive then start down the list. If this one is 3000 more because of wheels and a bumper that 1% would be looking for, they will never sell the car. As you would call and say someone has the same car down the street for less, and you can do wheels yourself.

I just picked up my 335xi, 1 owner, 1 accident. Im aware of the accident as well where it was the first 3 years of its life although 1800 miles from where I am. I shopped the price as I can do wheels, tint, and so on myself and not add it to the cost of the car itself. I took the risk, shipped it in, and couldnt be happier with it. I did the same thing with my last car the STS-V. Rolled the dice after shopping a few months and knowing what I was getting myself into was the key. Always plan to do some work yourself on a car.

As for your situation, if Carmax put 18500 on it, guess what 18500 is a good number. I never worked for the Carmax franchise but I do work at an Autotrader buying center as well a Vauto planned store. We buy car from customers just like Carmax.

I reccomend if you feel the wheels and bumper are worth more then do it. If a dealership who buys a million cars a year states its worth 18500 now, remember if you ever decide to get rid of it, you overpaid just that little bit.

Its a sharp looking car dont get me wrong not bashing that for a second. I would have loved to find an 09 like that for the price I just paid for my 2009 but couldnt find a black on black E92 for that in the 335xi. If hes a good friend, you know all the services were done, and your not using the dealership I would say 18500 is the best price. Nada you cant really use as the accident will automaticly turn away 80% of the buyers on that car regardless of the circumstances. Take 10-15% off for the accident, add the wheels and bumper that you like that are already on the car, and your right at the 18500 they offered him.

Good luck with the purchase, nice looking car, Im kinda jealous.

4th owner on a 5 1/2 y.o. car? no thanks don't want someone else's headache, not even for 15,500. also, bluetooth and logic 7 were not optional, so I hope they're not trying to say they were. bluetooth came with premium, and logic 7 just plain standard.

Carmax low balled my buddy with a 2009 G37. They offered him $18k for it yet he sold it back to the Infiniti dealer he bought it from for $22k.

Carmax was meticulously trying to undervalue the car by looking at every crevice and determining whether the car was damaged, accident, repainted, etc. to try to find every way to de-value the car as much as possible.

So my take is that if Carmax offered him $18k for the 335i, its probably worth a bit more than that. Say 21-22 like some guys say on here.

I'd probably say $20k-$21k based on what's stated here. Leaves some incentive to sell to you over Carmax and saves him from posting it online and try to get the extra dough by selling it himself.

Concur, depending on the service records I would say offering 21k would be fair if you are comfortable with the car. Too hard to tell from one photo, but from the limited data we have, that would by my take.

No. The reason why we took it to carmax was to find out the "baseline price" of the car, never to sell it there. Of course my friend will and was going to sell privately to someone random, or to me, because he can get much more than what carmax offered.

Nope, no one was trying to overstate the option. I was aware of the fact that 335i comes with logic 7, and other stuffs like bluetooth with premium.

It's a 5 year old car, with expired warranty, but I know he never had issue with the car = no headache

Depends on the state. Not all states give tax credit for the trade.

I wouldn't rely too heavily on the Carmax offer as being a basis of value in the private party market. There is a difference between an appraisal and an offer. Carmax is willing to pay him 18500 for the car. That is what it is worth to THEM. 335s are a risky purchase as many are modded and many have issues. This means there has to be more room in the margin to account for the risk involved. They also may have 20 335s that they can't currently sell. All of this plays into the offer.

I think $20.5K-21K is a good offer. It is more then what Carmax is offering.

The car has no Navigation system which to me is worth a bit extra. If it had one then I could justify $22K.

Even if your friend takes those things off and sells them. He would probably get at best $1.5K for it. The trade in credit from saving on taxes would be $500. That is $2K in total. So add that on to the Carmax offer and you are looking at what I said.

Also, check what services are coming up. Because most of the time brake pads need to be replaced around this time period.
