Plastidip vs GooGone

Decided to black out my trim over the weekend...everyone said it was super easy to do with plastidip. Supposedly if you leave extra space around the trim and intentionally overspray the dip will peel off in a clean line all the way around your trim. Well this worked for the most part but some places it didn't work so well...less than 12 hours later the plastidip was removed and I was left with a bunch of overspray.

Moral of the story...GooGone wins! If I were to do it again I would tape right up to the trim, do more coats (two cans), and use better lighting.

Looks like you did a great job spraying it on...mine is all sorts of shades, hahaha...when I have some time this summer and feeling bored...I'll tape off everything again and fix up the imperfections.

Goo Gone is AWESOME! I had overspray on the windshield and it came right off. Going to get all the overspray on the body of the car this weekend if I have some time.

needs more masking! you'll get overspray on your car. if you have a garage, do it in a garage. I thought it looked good; why remove?

and yes should have put the painters tape inside the edge of the trim. i have some overpsray dip on one side of my car

Your assumption was wrong, peeling off is only intended on stuff like emblems and if your dipping the whole car and then you can peel of windows and etc

Only best way to do the trim is to mask it and cover the whole car and do it in like a garage

Mines holding up very well did it last summer

Wasn't really an assumption...I got the idea from this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=671155

If I do it again I will mask off the entire car and tape diferently

I'm going to end up getting mine wrapped I think...I don't want to go through this process again. I'm a perfectionist as well so any little flaw is going to make me not sleep at night. I did this Thursday night and had to call off work Friday to take it off...that's how bad it bothered me

I may look into getting the window trims wrapped later this year or next year if the Plasti Dip starts to come off...supposedly it's about $175 to get it done at a local shop. Then I will purchase gloss black grilles. Overall though, I think it looks good for the money.

Here's mine trim and grilles done in Black Plasti Dip.
