Dilemma: Lightweight wheels & tires or BMW performance exhaust

Just got a 2012 335i convertible with MSport package. I'm in the market for some mods but can't decide between dropping some unsprung weight or getting a more aggressive exhaust note. Probably get more performance from the wheel and tire change but the performance exhaust sounds great. BTW, with the wheels I'm looking at I should be able to drop at least 10 lbs per corner.

Wheels. They make such a dramatic impact in acceleration, braking, and handling that it's a no brainer. With the vert being such a pig it will really really help.

Not even a contest. Wheels 100%, exhaust does nothing for performance and looks, only for sound.

Wheel help performance and make the car look much better, obviously if you pick out tasteful rims. And the 335 already has a pretty good exhaust sound to begin with.

Exhaust first. Then by the time you wear out the current tires, you will have saved up enough for the wheels...

What do you enjoy more? Listening to a bad ass exhaust or going faster and looking better?

Dropping 10lbs per corner will make a huge difference, go for the wheels/tires for sure.

This.

You should already have some pretty nice stock wheels with the Msport pack. Not light though with the runflats

Thanks for the suggestions although it seems to be divided equally! Definitely more interested in improving acceleration first. The OEMs are the 230 style 19" which are nice but I weighed the front and it came in at 51 lbs so there is room for improvement.

335i Coupe weighs in according to BMW at 3582 lbs... depending on options while the 335i vert weighs 4001 lbs.. huge difference, that retractable top weighs a lott

How about this? Consider getting the BMW PPK Stage 1 Software, which will make your heavier vert much closer to par with a regular coupe. 20 extra horses, 32 extra torques (auto) and a louder exhaust note that you will enjoy every time. You get best of both worlds. That what I would do. And yes, the improved exhaust note--without switching your exhaust--does get noticeably louder.

Oh, and yes, the PPK 1 will greatly improve your acceleration; far more than light wheels or axle-back. Far more. All for a fraction of the cost, too. LOL, I should be a salesman for BMW.

I'm willing to bet losing 40lbs of unsprung weight does more than 20hp. If you want a louder exhaust, just do the golf tee mod.

of course exhaust can make performance better, they are just costly.

but a 335 does have a good stock exhaust sound

Since the E93 is quite heavy, I would start with the wheels, then tune, exhaust etc.

If I'm not mistaken, the golf tee mod really only improves the exhaust noise when the car is still cold and the valves would be closed otherwise. I don't think that there is really a noticeable difference once your car has warmed up and you are a mile from home.

Don't bother with an exhaust, do downpipes first
The sound is better and the way the turbo spools is fantastic.
Which wheels are the lightest to get that don't cost a mint?
