I am a little mad right now. I went to Nova University in Davie, FL yesterday to watch a friend graduate, I had to park about a half mile away and it was me and ONE other truck in the parking lot, I think nothing of it.

I come back 2 hours later to see my car looking lonely as can be in this parking lot but something is different....what's that on my hood? hmmmmm

As I walk closer my fears are confirmed...the ONLY truck in the parking lot had backed into my car and guess what, he didnt even leave a note. It was about 12am and I had work at 430am this morning so I didnt want to stick around to file a report when I was 30min from home.

What is my next step?? File a police report and file a collision claim thru insurance?

This is why we can't have nice things.

I have been backed into 6 times, if that makes you feel better.

Here are some highlights:
1. My friend was DD for new year's eve; he backed into my car sober.
2. I arrive in Austin after a 3 hour drive, park my car at the very end of a street (just behind a stop sign), and sit on a bench next to my car. Out of nowhere, a guy with a trailer hitch decides he's going to try and park in front of me and I watch in horror as he drives the hitch into my bumper.
3. At a stop sign, the man in front of me decides to put his car in reverse and straight up hits me for no fucking reason. No insurance.
4. I very reluctantly went to lunch with an old friend for an hour and came out to see what looks like claw marks all over my rear bumper because someone doesn't know how to back out before turning the wheel. I watch an hour of security footage to find nothing because my car is JUST out of camera shot.
5. Just 2 months ago, a girl IN THE EXIT LINE of a parking garage decides to throw her Jeep Liberty, M1 Abrams edition, into reverse and just hit me. Excuse: "I just wasn't looking." $4800 in damage + OSS. 2 months and counting repair time.


Anyway, shit happens. Feel better that it hasn't happened 5 more times yet.

Damn, that sucks... Yes, you need to file a police report and notify your insurance.

WOW, if that doesn't make a person feel better...

been backed into once on my way to class by a girl in that same class - we sat in the back on the room and i gave her the death eye the entire time

sitting in a line of traffiic and some douche behind me though traffic was moving and decided to pull out and crash into my back bumper for no reason

was backed into in a gas station parking lot as i was pulling into a spot

AND 2 women have totaled 2 different cars i owned - mitsu eclipse, girl pulled out in front of me going 45 mph in heavy traffic - my car was BRIGHT RED...the other came zooming out of a micky d's parking lot during lunchhour and totaled my nissan se-r... ... needless to say this is how i got my Bimmer...

...hopefully my bad luck does not continue with my BMW... ::fingers crossed::

Report it to your local police dept. It's not an Emergency so 911 isn't the way to call. Either call the local number or drive down there in person.

If you go through your insurance company for repairs, your rates will likely increase even though it was a hit and run. You may want to consider paying out of pocket, particularly if you have a high deductible since you'll be paying a good portion of the costs anyway.

Have your friend check with attendees to see if anyone saw something so you can location the B-tard who did that!

I think my deductible is fairly low. I need a new hood, front bumper and grills. my deductible is wayyyy less than that

You are going to have to file a report in the jurisdiction where the accident happened. Especially if you think you know who did it. Your home police department wont investigate an accident 30 minutes away in another town.

Called the police dept. they just said come to the station and fill out a report, not much else they can do since it was hit and run.

Feel your pain, my 328i was ran into 5 times before I was run off the road and totaled her.

2 new bumpers, 5 re-sprays then wrecked.

Jesus, you might want your next mod to be painting your entire car bright yellow.

Things like this are why I want to get a Jeep Wrangler and put steel front and rear bumpers plus steel running boards. That way anyone hitting it would do more damage to their car and all I'd get are a few scuffs.

My Jeep was the most carefree vehicle I've owned. Had nerf bars on side and fat tube bumpers and grille guard. Other doors and cars just bounced off. I left the top off and doors unlocked.

Now I worry if there's another car within 50 feet of me.

Yup. Be sure to file the police report then notify your insurance. If you're unsure about the process ask your insurance company and they can give you specific steps. Just don't call 911 unless it's an emergency. :P
