Dynamic Handling Package on xdrive car
Can anyone tell me what this will do to the ride and the handling of the car? Also will it make it more like a non xdrive in regards to response and sportiness?

I think it adds the Variable Sport Steering and M Sport Dynamic Damping (but doesn't lower the car 10 mm like it would were it not AWD). It's just the same package you can buy for a RWD 3er.

For RWD Sport/Msport lines, the car is already lowered because of the sport suspension. So with the Dynamic Handling Package, the car will be lowered even more?

no...lowering is 10 mm with either setup. If you order M dynamic, it deletes 704 sport suspension from std sportline/msport.
he X drive car would not be lowered by the 10 mm "sport drop" either way. |

From 2013 F30 Order Guide: ZDH and ZMM will delete 704 from the order ZDH and ZSL will delete 704 from the order As far as "Adaptive M Suspension" goes, is it configurable from idrive (switching between different modes)? And what are those modes?

Sport suspension is just 10mm lower than standard (and maybe a tiny bit stiffer to make up for the loss in suspension travel).
Adaptive suspension also 10mm lower than the standard suspension and has various settings which are similar to the systems in the F10 5-series and E90 M3, where you can have a Comfort and Sport settings for your damping, thus making the modes Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ have a bigger impact than if you simply had passive dampers. The adaptive suspension can also stiffen and soften while in a mode to make hard cornering flatter or hitting a pothole more comfortable. You decide which is better for your needs Last edited by Mahzari; 06-24-2012 at 02:53 AM.. |

The adaptive suspension on the X3, has been thoroughly veted on the X3 forum. The feeling is that if you like a sporty drive, get the adaptive system. My experience with the AWD X3, would indicate that the sport setting configured for chassis only, drives very similarly to my E90 335IX. In the normal mode the ride is way softer than my old X3, somewhat Buick like.
I plan on getting the Adaptive system on my new 335ix this winter, I am not as sold on the cosmetics only of the M package if you order the adaptive suspension separatly. |

Configurable from I drive..can choose chassis only (shocks and steering) or chassis and drivetrain (shocks steering and throttle response) as choices when pressing sport button. My thoughts are to configure for chassis only and use sport all the time and then use the trans joy stick to alter throttle response based on traffic conditions. I'll see how it works out when my car arrives. |

I am still confused on the Adaptive M Suspension. My CA told me not to get it as he said it only stiffens the suspension and would punish the car in rough roads.
However, based on this forum, it sounds like my CA is way off. Please let me know if this is correct about the Adaptive M Suspension on xDrive car: In Sports or Sports+ mode, the ride is more stiff but in normal mode, the ride is softer than compared to a car without Adaptive M Suspension. Am I correct? thanks. |

your CA does not understand how M adaptive works let alone the choices available for X drive equipped F 30s.
M adaptive is softer in comfort than the sport suspension (704) equipped cars which you can not opt for w/ X drive. The lower ride height and firmer springs would make for a firmer ride on 704 equipped cars but your only suspension option is M adaptive. If you want more a more sporty ride and tighter supension settings than the comfort ride, you will need dynamic the handling package on an X drive car so you can choose it w/ the sports button configured accordingly. Why would they make it optional if it would PUNISH the car. So they could have more warranty claims ??? Sports + does not stiffen more than sport w/ M adaptive but lessens the traction control intervention so the driver can hang it out there more. Get a new CA. Some of these guys are clueless..scary , isn't it ??? One CA I test drove with told me he had not seen a car with M adapative suspension yet. We were riding in a 335 sportline. It was a launch car and said M adaptive and VSS on the window sticker. I felt obligated to point that out to him so as not to embarass himself with another client. Thanks emtrey !
Since a xDrive car have the normal suspension rather than sport suspension, having the Adaptive M Suspension in comfort or normal would soften it even further, correct? For myself, I like a more sporty ride but at other times with wife and kids, I want a more comfort ride especially with the bad roads in NY. |

But I can tell you this..I don't think you have a choice if you prefer the sporty ride option AND the M adaptive F30s I have driven rode very well in comfort mode and much better than my current 135i in sport ( I am sure the new ge runflats play in here as much as the suspension) Go for the dynamic handling package and ignore your CA ( unless the $$ is an issue--keep in mind the M adaptive will be more to repair if you need shocks down the road if keeping the car that long ) Last edited by emtrey; 06-24-2012 at 04:28 PM.. |
