flagging for mods by BMW

Is there any way to research if your car has been flagged by BMW for mods, without actually asking BMW directly? Any VIN search for this anywhere or another way to find out?

Gotta make that money and BMW will look for any way to cancel a warranty due to a customer that disregarded their instructions.

Not entirely sure why this thread was jacked, but this is a pretty important issue if anyone is anxiously awaiting some kind of definitive resolution to the turbo/wastegate lawsuit and wants to know if they have already been secretly flagged by a dealer. Sure would be nice to know before removing your mods, bringing the car in, and being told then.

I would like to know this too
Had a little jb4 incident and the car wouldn't start wii had to bring it to the dealership
They wrote in the write up that "customer states tried to ok something up to sub connector xxxx......."
Of course I mixedup the grey and white subconnectirs
They never told me y warranty would be void so I would like to kow enforce removing my DPs and exhaust bc of a wastegate issue

When I went in bc my window keeps auto going down they also wrote about my steering wheel mounted gauges and my aftermarket angel eyes
Those should have no effect on the warranty but the jb4 screwup may

This is not about the key. If a tech pops open the ecu cover and notes the presence of a tune, I assume they record that into a database and tie that info to your VIN forevermore, don't they? I don't know how they actually do it, which is why I am trying to find out. Which is why I started the thread. I also assume that once your VIN is flagged you are f*cked, and if your VIN was flagged before you bought the car you are f*cked, and whoever the next owner is, is f*cked.

Do you think a simple BMS dual cone intake on my cpo'd 335i would cause the bmw dealership to "flag" my car or void the warranty. I had an air intake on my old 328i and when I took it in to get it serviced under warranty my service advisor was fine with the intake and said it was ok to have. If my turbo fails (which it shouldnt) Could the dealership point to something like an air intake and put all the blame on it and use as a scapegoat? thanks

There would have to be a catastrophic outright failure of a part for them to even bother. Even then, BMW has the burden of proof factor to contend with that would prove said mod caused said fail.
Most dealers don't care man, really...
Do you know how many times I went in for service etc with my parts still on the car?
COULD this happen? I'm sure it can. How often? I'm really thinking not at all often.
Dealers get paid by BMW to repair/ replace shit no matter what the cause. Unless your SA hates your guts, or your engine blows up, I really think it's a non issue.

yeah its a problem bro, what all this boils down to is, its a dealer by dealer basis, i had one dealer freak out bout mods and then next dealer compliment about mods, the one that freaked out about mods actually replaced my turbos, all he did tho was make me remove all my mods, the only thing i know about mods being stored is when they write the service papers it shows (intake/exhaust/etc caused 30ff ect..... we all know what 30ff reallly is...a boost leak sometimes OR bad turbos.

Whoah, Leo Getz, calm the f*ck down!

And if there is such a conspiracy, do you think "they" would actually let you have access to that information??? Take a minute and think about that for a little bit.

that isnt really the issue. the issue is if the dealer flagged the car then no matter what dealer you brought it to they would say sorry we cant do this under warranty.

FYI - you VIN is flagged when you get Dinan installed indicating the car has been tuned. BMW uses the info to pass the buck to Dinan if there is an issue with the car that they think is something they want Dinan to pay for.
