2006 E90 rust/bubbling on edge of door panel seperating the windows

Hello,

I just noticed some minimal rust on the passenger side door panel (weatherstripping) that is between the two windows (front and rear)...

My research indicates that E90's are covered by a 12 year rust warranty.. what are my choices of getting this fixed/covered free by a dealer and what do I do if they don't honour the warranty?

Thank you!

imho any rust at all probably indicates prior damage/repair.

Sorry, but that isn't covered by the warranty. The warranty coverage for corrosion (rust) only covers perforation (it has to rust all the way through, causing a hole).

From BMW's website:

Rust protection for 2006 and newer models.
For 2006 and newer models, we also provide a 12-year limited warranty rust perforation warranty without mileage limitation. This warranty is for defects in materials or workmanship that results in rust perforation of the vehicle body. This coverage period begins at the start of the New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty.

We really need pics. As the new owner of a 2007 328i in the salt belt, I want to learn the common areas which may rust and take steps to prevent it.

That is the "letter of the law" but at least around here in the rust belt I have known dealers to cover repairs without needing to rust through. Anything that's getting a hold will rust through in short order and be much more expensive to repair if you let the cancer grow another year. Of course in the cases I know of the car was owned by the original owner who purchased from that dealer so they might get some favourable treatment.

It's worth asking and pressing for a repair.

Thanks for the feedback - I spoke to the dealer on the phone today and he informed me that the weatherstripping part of it is only covered for 4 years.. nonetheless I will bring it in to get an estimate and they will take pics to send it into HQ to see if they will cover it.

Will keep you updated with pics etc. when I get a second

I have this problem too. Any luck with the dealer? I'm still under warranty but I don't think that will help me.

Anyone know how to remove these parts. They are only 35 bucks on real Oem.

Give it a good wax before winter and wash off the salt the day after the snow fall when the roads are dry will go a long way. Also, touch up all the stone and salt chips when it is warm enough. I have done this on my 2001.5 VW Passat and currently have no rust. The car currently has 340K km on it.

Of course you could do what I do with my 2007 328i don't drive it from Nov.30 to April 1.
The salt they put on the 401, QEW, and 407 is brutal !!!
