Frontlight spraycleaner makes a mess of my hood!!

Hi all

When I clean my windshield the car also sprays liquid to clean my frontlights. The problem is that the stuff gets all over my hood and its sticky and cannot be any good for the paint. Is there something wrong with the alignment or is it supposed to be this way? Can you disable the frontlight cleaner in some way?

you got the cold package? you can't really disable the headlight washer but you can put your light in the 0 position and spray and they will not appear. but remember to put it back on during night driving

Within the fusebox located just behind the glovebox, there are 2 electrical items related to the headlamp washers:

1. 30 amp fuse ( i believe position 43 or 46)
2. Headlamp washer control/relay located on the very right-hand corner (forgot the position, but it's labeled on the fuse box index label).

Either way, I think you can pull out either one of these and the electrical connection to the headlamp washers will be rendered open. This should prevent them from activating. I haven't done this on my car yet. Can anyone else confirm?

Sorry to be happy, but this confirms my choice of getting heated seats and folding rear seats vs ZCP. For the 10 times per year it would be nice to have them, there would be 50 times where I would be cursing.

same when i thought about the options when ordering my car. but ultimately was like well if i get the heated seats and fold down seperately, might as well get the entire package lol. do i regret it? not really hopefully will help on resale value if a person really needs...

I saw in a DIY post its said #43, but that was in a 2006 325i sedan. I think for other models its different and whatever it uses, I think the circuit is shared with other items. What we need to find is "the relay".

Yeah, this is a very cool feature but very poor design. I don't have it, but have seen many other members with it. Makes a total mess all over the car! Good luck bro.v

There is no need to find any fuse or disable anything simply dont pull so hard on the wiper stalk. I have yet to have my headlight washers come out when I dont want them to. On my 06 330i (so Im sure all the other cars have them) there is a threshold on the stalk that lets you spray the windshield without activating the headlight washers even with the headlights on. Give it some practice and you can find it.

the washers only come on when the headlights are on, so you can keep from activating them by flipping the headlight switch to off.

I don't mind them much, in the summer I just use water in the reservoir and in the winter I add the OEM washer fluid concentrate. It really is not too noticeable, in the winter there is so much slush, ice and salt on the road, a 15 minute drive to work and my car looks like it has 2-tone paint.

+1 Pull to spray the windshield, pull hard to spray windshield and headlights. From now on, you won't spray your headlights unless you want to.

But FWIW, whenever my windshield is so messy I need to use the sprayers, the rest of the car is a mess, too, so I could car less about getting wiper fluid on the front of the car. The only time I've ever used them is during winter, with all the damn salt on the roads around here. It doesn't go all the way up the hood on mine -- at least it doesn't seem to -- just a bit around the front. They work well to clean the lights when you need them.

All xi's have the headlight washers as standard equipment whether you opt for ZCP or not.

Tell me..where would u expect the water from the washers to end up?

btw..it's no worse for your paint than the washer fluid that move up to the roof of your car when u clean your windshield.

Not to sound sarcastic, but if you are needing to wash your lights/windshield, isn't your car already dirty because it has been raining?
I have never once cleaned my windshield with fluid when the car is clean and it hasn't been raining....

just my 02.
