From Stock to FBO +Meth in one shot!
I've been deployed for a year researching my options for the 335 & N54, hoping I could find a 6MT. After 3 weeks of searching I was lucky to catch one local the day it was listed, before pics were posted by the dealer. I ran the build sheet and it had everything I wanted. 2010 6MT, Premium, Sport, and Nav 335 sedan in AW.
Day two of ownership was spent at the tint shop, reading the forum while I waited. Day three I ordered: 3M Di-Noc to cover the wood trim Gloss black grilles AW reflectors Petal Covers CDV UUC EVO3 W/DSSR and Shift knob, e-brake handle set HSF-4 with 2 gallon tank enclosure from Howerton (Thanks Jeff!) DCI Procede Rev3 VRSF DPs ER Charge pipe W/Tial BOV & Meth bungs (Thanks TGS! ) Install starts next week when the UPS guy brings my goodies. Anything I should look out for as I install all of this? Did I forget anything? Any small items or hardware that I might need. Hoping to have it done by the end of next week. All pointers, tips, tricks and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. ~Nate Last edited by dblrguy; 06-21-2012 at 05:44 PM.. |

Good lookin out pc69, forgot to type in the DCI.
As for the FMIC, I may try to pick one up in the for sale section. I'm comfortable with the cooling of the meth until I find one. Anyone with experience have any thoughts on this? Do I need the FMIC now? |

I would have definitely put a FMIC in the mix, if not first. Summer is here and with all that power/boost you'll be generating...Your poor car is going to be panting like a dog after a couple wot runs.

Everything I've read says yes. I normally research everything I buy to death. Meth is something I didn't know anything about 6 months ago. I know the HSF-4 is not necessary but I just got a bit burned out trying to figure everything out. I knew I didn't want to use the WW tank. There are many that say any basic kit with a good failsafe added will work just fine. I sent PMs, emails and even made calls to some of the leading shops. I even told one of them to tell me what to order. I ended up going with the HSF-4 because I like the enclosure and I know there will be no surprises during install. I was worried that if I built a basic kit with add-ons something would be missing then I'd be waiting another week to get everything set up and working. I didnt want to take that chance once I go back to work.
As I understand it the HSF-4 has options to read multiple signals from the DME to determine required flow. To start I'm planning to let the procede call the shots. |

Not as fun as the cars you are driving shiv!
Shiv, can I get your opinion on needing the FMIC at this point? ~Story time~ I bought my 330i while I was stationed in Germany. I didn't have the option to wait for the 335 at the time. I didn't even let myself test drive a 335 until last week. This is just the start of building the car I have been dreaming about for 5 years. |

I've done the bone stock to FBO + meth transformation on my 335i. Was fun before a tune induced misfire sapped all the fun.

That's the way to do it. I remember when it took me a while to go from tune+dci to tune+dci+meth, and after I was mad at myself for waiting so long. I learned my lesson then added AR DP, AA FMIC, Forge DV, and AA exhaust in one shot.

was your failure installer/operator error? How long before your misfire? Interested in more details. I started this thread so that I could learn from guys like you to know if there is anything I need to look out for.

Honestly though, if you are running meth that will supersede any IAT cooling of the FMIC. It's not 100% mandatory to get the best one, just get one. If you are considering a big turbo one day, then you might want to put some more thought in it though. As someone mentioned before, you will most likely need a clutch replacement too. So I'd start looking. My stock clutch didn't hold very long when I went FBO+meth. It doesn't have enough clamping force. My stock looked almost brand new when I had to take it out.
