Question Why is i-drive so slow?

Why is i-drive so slow? Its even slower than my old laptop... I try scrolling through some menus and it doesn't even respond sometimes for a few seconds... causing me to hit the controller too many times trying to get it to respond I end up somewhere else.

Anyone else have this problems. Is this normal?

i must say mine is not a lightning, but it is acceptable.

but ...

i've heard that is some cases, due to the version, you BMW garage can upgrade your software. And in this software, they've taken some graphic parts away, to make the screens lighter ...

i know that the nice forst page of the idrive and some other are too charged with graphic layers, and the onboard computer takes some troubles with that. Memory overload ... something like that.

Can anybody confirm (or tell that i am wrong )

Remember all of those 8086 4.77 MHz microprocessors that Intel was making in the 80's? Well, they made too many and in order to recoup their costs, they sold them to BMW dirt cheap. BMW, in order to save their expenses, put them in the iDrive; the "i" means "Intel".

Note: once you have your system die, you'll concern yourself less with speed, and simply wish it would turn on!

i find the iDrive to be extremely frustrating and I wish it goes away to something with touch-screen capabilities. And i feel it's really slow too.

This has been discussed a million times. iDrive is slow because it uses Java. The controller response lag is normal.

I thought it got better with the recent March build dates, alot of people posted after getting their March and later builds that the Nav was faster processing than before March. Is that right?

It is still very laggy when responding to any control - even voice. It takes 10-15 seconds to calculate a route, takes maybe 30 seconds to list a MP3 directory with a lot of files, the radio tuner control is slow, etc.

Mine lost the nav voice during WOT one time. Another time my radio settings (like EQ) all got set back to default. Most likely, the CCC has a flaw in its power supply. For example, the voltage regulator may not be not functioning 100% correctly. I noticed that CCC on the 5-series has same issues. BMW probably has not yet fixed the problem.

I agree that the iDrive is too damn slow. If our fighter planes responded this slow to pilot input, they'd all be shot down by now.
