Navigation system, worth it?

Hey guys, im interested in some feedback about the E90/E92 navigation system. My fiancee is set on getting it but id like to hear what you guys think about it first.

First off, how much does the whole system cost(business, not pro)?

Also how reliable/accurate is it? My friend has a after market portable system and its very reliable, ill def. settle for one of these if BMW's is not up to par.
Thanks.

You def need it. I would never get another car without it. It is far superior to external models. In the US you can only get Nav Pro. I dont know how much it costs, i think around $2k.

also, you dont just get a nav, you get I-DRIVE. which is dope for blue-tooth phone calls, stereo, climate, and the navigation. Do yourself a favor and get it. It will increase your resale value as well.

Business nav not avail.

When you order satnav, you also get the CCC, which is the high version of BMW´s computer. Search and you will find a comprehensive analysis of what functionality that brings, least of which is the Bordmonitor.

I would not get a car without it. You may only need it a few times a month for satnav, but the other functionality is invaluable.

Depends how much and where you drive...
If you're a realtor-type, then yes.
If you're going for the rides on weekends, and so on, then google maps or similar does it (that is what I use...)
Nav is >$2k so...

Got it and love it. I use it at least once a week. And w/o the 2nd hump, the E9x seems too plain and incomplete IMO.

I like it, the whole price sheet is shown on the E9x New car ordering Subforum. It's as accurate as any other system because they use the Navteq discs. I love the fact that it is integrated with the car, the voice commands, and steering wheel inputs.

Go play with it at the dealer IMO.

Evening Fifth,

Personaly I enjoy the BMW Nav, a lot of people complain about how it lags but I've never experienced this. It may be due in part to the latest software flash, and I'm sure if you purchased a new car it would come with that.

Some things I can complain about:

1st: If you're using BMW assist and you have your navigation set to guide you somewhere, it will speak over the assist agent which gets annoying. This doesn't happen if you're using your phone to call someone from your address book however.

2nd: This may just be my own stupidity, but if you stop prematurely in route to a navigated site and turn off the car -It will prompt you on engine start-up whether or not you'd like to continue navigation to the site. If you're occupied with something else (which I am 99% of the time) and you forget to select yes/no, and the navigation selects yes by default. Then you can't tell the navigation to stop directing you, unless you ask it to direct you to another location.

Lastly, if you get BT and have the bmw ipod connection then having BMW Nav becomes REALLY awesome

Hope that helped,

Elmaki

If you use voice command button and say "Stop guidance", the navigation will stop itself.

I agree that the navi is extremely accurate. Once I was parked in a fire zone by my friend's house and I entered an address I want to go to, and the navi told me that I was illegally parked, haha.

You can also run your Navi and mute the voice. It's the first option on your left hand side, I often do this.

If you drive out of town often, which may translate to at least two tips of town every month, then it is definitely worth it.

However, if you are one of those who only drives out of town on long weekends, then portable navigation system will be good enough. They are 1/10 of the price of the BMW Nav. Of course, the BMW Nav comes with other options which you may want to consider, but that is a totally different question all together.

I could not live without idrive. The nav system is ok. I have on occasion gotten lost, but that was the user's fault, and not the computer.

What idrive excels at is control over other car functions that are not otherwise available on non-idrive cars. If you have an ipod, the idrive and ipod connection is an absolute must... I dont know how I managed without it in my old E90...

That sounds useful, I should probably learn all my voice commands before complaining

Hehe, sure that'll work. My problem was that I had already called BMW assist (forgot to mute)...its only happen once so at least I can say I haven't made the same mistake twice

I guess ill have to get the navi because the Ipod connection requires Idrive right?

Is the Ipod adapter located in the glovebox or in the center console?

Comfort Access? Can you start the engine with a push of a button? Or is it just to unlock doors by touch?
