2 piece tint????

I just got my black e92 tinted. When i got back my car, I realized that they did not use a one piece tint on my rear windshield, and instead used a 2 piece tint. It does not look bad, but under the sun, you can see a line between the 2 pieces. I was wondering if anyone else has had a 2 piece tint on their rear winshield, or majority has the one piece. Im considering removing it and replacing it with one piece, but am afraid that theyll mess it up somehow and break my rear defrosters. If you can let me know what kind of tints ur tint shop used that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I've seen it before, usually indicates an inexperienced tinter. Did you get some info on the shop before taking it in? Sometimes with HUGE rear windows two pieces are going to happen one way or another. But shouldn't be an issue in an E92.

^^ Exactly. They should of told you that they were going to use 2 pieces. If you take it back they might try and charge you more for one piece saying that for that window they do 2 pieces and one is more. That is BS and a good tinter will be able to do it with one piece.

Thanks,
I am going to take mine back this saturday and have them re-do the rear window. Would removing it damage my rear defrosters? Has anyone had this happen on an E90?

Yeah, 2 pieces is just a shitty tint job. Plenty of cars with larger rear windows (my Firebird for example) still get 1 piece jobs.

I don't see removing it being an issue with the defroster lines .

I just went back to my tint shop that gave me the 2 piece tint. They said on all of the bmw they tint, they use 2 pieces because of how the glass is shaped. I think that is BS but, they dont have any 1 piece film for the rear windshield. Now if i go to another shop they wont have the same film, and the colors wont match, unless i remove all the films from all windows, which is very unpractical. I think i might just have to keep the 2 piece film which makes me pissed. I wouldnt complain as much, if they did a great job on the the tints which they didnt. I guess thats the gamble you take when u tint ur windows.

that means they're not competent enough to tint bmw's. that's such BS man. there are plenty of cars with more awkward glass positioning and shapes!

anyway, when you go for a tint place you ask the tinter to give you specific info on how he's going to tint. dont hand your car to a guy before you know for sure.

They are not experts in window tinting. What they told you is FALSE... Nobdoy does 2 piece tinting on rear sedans/coupes anymore.. I haven't seen this in a WHILE, onlin the old days, and even then they didn't that much.. The only places i really see that is tinters who don't know wtf they are doing.

And as in for gamble you take to get your windows tinted is not true. Did you do any research on the tinter before you got it tinted??? I hope you didn't get it at a $99 tint place with unknown film and their "lifetime" warrenty. Dude i'm not to sound like a dick, but sometimes is a little more worth it to spend extra bucks but get it done right... Your driving a hot car, you gotta get quality products. 3M film, Llumar, etc.. are good films. Then there is more expensive like Huper optic, etc... BTW 3m has color stable (higher quality) and their regular 3M... Both are great.

Take it back, tell them to take all the tint out of your car For free. That you are not satisfied with their work. And if they bs you about it, tell them all your friends have bimmers and NONE have a shitty job with 2 films on the back.. and if he needs proof, let me know. I'm in essex co. I'll bring my e92 and they can see.

Get your money back. I don't know what your budget it. I got mine done in NY by lorenzo. Charged me $300 or $350 don't remember, but it was well worth the money. Great job and don't worry about window turning purple, bubbling, and i got 3M Color Stable.

Let me know bro and good luck.

Thanks,
I just had mine done on Saturday. He used two piece Tint for the back window also. Basically he overlayed the main piece with another slice at the very top of the window. He told me that they have a hard time working around the "bubbles" at the edges of the windows so the second piece was used to blend it more.

If they think the rear 3 series glass requires two pieces, than they must do this for every practice this solution for every rear window. I wouldn't say they don't have one piece film for the car, but instead, they are incapable of installing it in one piece.

What brand film do they use?

I wonder how many pieces they use for the VW New Beetle.

I paid 240 for my tints, which isnt cheap. They used lumar film for the windows. I had 2 of my suvs tinted there, which they did a great job, but on those cars i did not need to get my rear windows tinted, only the front so i didnt know they were going to use 2 pieces on the rear. Ive been to a few tint shops, and they seem to do the best job overall, one place even put around 3-4 inch scratches on my window....but I wont get into that..i guess i dont have good luck when it come to choosing tint places.

2 piece can also mean they were using leftover tint film.

would any of you who tinted your car say you had a perfect tint job...perfect meaning, no bubbles, no dirt trapped inside, and no scratches on the tint....also for those of you who got ur windows redone at a different place, did the tinter charge you to remove the old ones? If so how much did they charge, Im really considering getting them redone, I already spent 240 on my original one...any help is greatly appreciated
