Strange interior problem.. door panel falling off
I searched and couldnt find any information on this problem. I hope Im not the first. Well, driving today I noticed a rattle near the driver door and didnt figure out what it was until the next light. I noticed the top of the interior door panel is hanging off the door (the top piece of upholstry near my shoulder that meets the bottom of the window). Unfortunately i dont have a camera with me, so no pics. But I am able to put my entire hand in between the leather panel and the door frame and i feel like i can almost reach down towards the airbag.
I have no idea what caused this. My only guess is maybe closing the door too hard or flying over speed bumps in my neighborhood. I hope its something that can be fixed easily by the dealer. I have 15,000 miles on the car, its not even 2 years old and has never been in an accident. I was planning on upgrading to a 335i in 4 months when my lease is up, not sure if i want to now. This is pretty pathetic considering my last car (subaru) never had one problem in the 4 years i owned it. Was hoping someone here has maybe seen this problem before and could shine some light on this, thanks. |

Why sould this deter you from buying a 335i?

I agree that it shouldn't be loose, but I don't know how "pathetic" it is. It's not a very big problem, most likely a clip has broken or come loose. Take it in to get fixed.

Flying over speed bumps....maybe they should call them slow bumps and then you might realize what their purpose is. Oh, and how's your suspension holding up, or are you going to complain that it has a problem too?

Good catch Steve. I really didn't notice the "flying over speed bumps" part.
OP - if you don't take care of things, they wear out and break. Sounds like you are one of the 200,000,000 Americans who has been raised to accept no responsibility for anything. As I said - take it to get fixed. What exactly do you want us to do for you?

Loose panels are not good imho, but I can't imagine one of mine falling off, there has to be a cause and effect, i.e. person loosening or removing something.
In my other car, the dealership replaced the leather seat "cover" when the vehicle was brand-new, because they sliced it when removing the protective bag. Unfortunately, that action cased the rear back to never stay fitted properly (back is pressboard with plastic fasteners) and also the side air bag to malfunction as well, and this condition has plagued me through its 3 yr. warranty (return trips to have it fixed) and 6 years after that (current day I just leave it with the back having fallen off). An exception, sure, but why I don't like having things dismantled on a new car if not absolutely necessary..... |

the 3rd day I had my car, noticed the rear passenger door panel was loose... separated from the door frame. My wife and I snapped it into place in about 5 seconds, and that was that.

This is a known "quality" problem issue for BMW.
It is not isolated to the 3-series, it is also known to happen to X-series too.

I once threw my toaster down four flights of stairs, and the cheap POS broke. They have a hell of a nerve calling that a decent toaster.

Man i just noticed that my rear drivers door trim has popped out around the small window section of the door. I tried to pop it in by hand but it keeps popping back out. So trip to dealers i guess, but i might go to a closer dealer for this fix? Wtf, i searched and found lots of door trim issues like mine, i just wish i could of had same luck as the person i quoted...
