Will local dealers drop on parts prices?

Is there any type of motivation to get (any) dealerships to drop on their prices for OEM BMW parts?

Circle and Morristown will right off the bat tell you the list price and their selling price when you call them...

Every time I've went into my local BMW parts dept, I'll get quoted the retail price... Has anyone been successful with haggling? Would it do any good to inform them of the price you're being quoted from other dealerships or do have really have no incentive or reason to match prices and give you a deal?

I know BMW parts dept isn't circuit city, just thought I'd ask...

That is a damn good question. Retail prices suck.

Moze,

I tell the dealer that I bought the car from them and they give me a discount. If that doesn't work, I'd ask your Car Advisor who sold you the car. In my experience, they have always been accommodating.

Some dealers give discounts to BMWCC members.

Local Dealers have no incentive to discount to local customers, they are dealing with wholesale parts and are not about to sell a walk in owner at the same price as the local BMW shops buy at.

Funny, I had to buy something from Irvine BMW yesterday and they gave me wholesale price. First time going to the parts dept too.

I did not say it was not done, I said they have no incentive, if the counter guy wants to blow his margine on a walk in retail guy then he will. Being in the parts biz for 20+ years I can tell you it's a foolish practice to discount retail. it will only damage your wholesale account relationships.

There are just as many dealers that pump list price on retail guys and thats wrong to.

I see where you are coming from now.

I say, it doesn't hurt to ask or make friends (see: small talk) with the parts guy.

I'm wondering if, when you go to a clothes store to buy a suit, do you haggle the price? Do you ask them to "throw in a tie or a shirt or a pair of cufflinks" to complete the deal?

My Audi parts guy would always give me 10% off stuff. I'm not sure about BMW parts though.

I think that's different because in my experience with dealerships they'll often discount the price for customer loyalty. If you buy parts there, you'll most likely do service there. Service is where the dealers make $$$. The Retail Dept. stores really don't sell service along with their clothes, unless you want to use their alternation services. If you want to call us cheap, go ahead and say it, don't beat around the bush.

Oh and yes, the SCP Macy's suit lady does give me a discount since I have been a frequent customer. I never did ask for the discount but the first time she said it, she told me that "don't buy anything if I'm not here, I'll give you a discount." People who make commission have incentives too.

Way to compare Apples and Oranges, nice try.

I had emailed my local dealer, interested in a factory jack set. They quoted me the retail price of $144.xx. However, when I went in person the partsguy couldn't believe the high retail price and sold it to me for $100.90 (at their cost!) I was really impressed, didn't know the guy and it was my only second trip there (oil+filter). to Bobby Rahal BMW.

Best price that I had found online was $122 + shipping.

You're missing the point. I mentioned that other dealerships such as circle and morristown discount to anyone... Maybe their incentive is volume. This is why I asked about our local dealerships...

My philosophy is: if you don't ask, you don't get. Nothing's gonna be handed to you on a silver platter, at least in my life experiences. So whenever there's an opportunity for asking a better deal/price, ask away. The sales guy/gal is not in their interest to save you $$, but if you ask nicely, they'll most likely hook you up. The worst they can do to you is say No.

Cheers!

Maybe in Virginia. Your local chapter should be able to tell you how much of a discount you can get. Select Dealers give you a discount of 10-20% Not all of them do.

one of the reasons they're called the "stealer".

i try to buy parts online when possible. i usually find it to be cheaper online, even after shipping.

for small items or things that are urgent, i'll visit the dealer.

be careful of this. I caught one of the local dealers inflating the retail (list) price so that with the BMWCCA "discount" the price was barely less that the normal retail price. Have not purchased from them since and also bought my 335 from another dealer across town because of it too. So that $10 or whatever that they made on my parts lost them out on a much bigger sale down the road.....
