Exhaust Tips

Has anyone found any high quality Bolt-on exhaust tips for the M5?

I like to keep the OEM exhaust setup but the OEM tips are too small for the diffuser cutout.

How about custom tips from Dimisa ? You email them for what you want and they will do it for you.

here is one recent example done (not on an actual M5 but F10 5 series with M6 exhaust)

Fantastic idea. You are the master of unusual best-in-class aftermarket parts.

Are the OEM tips bolted on or welded on? If OEM is bolted on, then I would want these guys to make bolt-on.

I agree. Since it's custom made, you should email them to see what their feedback to your request for bolt on.

Actually, if you have something in mind, like copying/mimicking of certain exhaust brand's look, you should attached an image and tell him ... this is the exactly what I want.

For me, if I am to do it, I prefer the oval shape look, like Eisenmann.

There is another guy in the E90post forum that he does the exact thing but he's in Taiwan and lots of good feedback on him as well.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237510

I know a blogger in Canada bought one from him and I recently saw the result. Indeed pretty tips (blackened color)

I honestly think you would be better served purchasing a proper rear section bolt on exhaust (Eisenmann should do) rather than faux tips.

When you sell or trade in your M5 next year you can easily return it to stock and sell the exhaust on this forum. The custom tips are best utilized on honda civics IMHO.

The tips on the M3 are secured with rivets, it took 5 minutes to remove them, but the rear section of the exhaust, including the muffler had to come down to get access to them. On the M3 that would have been an hour-long job total. I recognize they are different cars, but this may help!

I don't want to change the sound of the car at all. I believe anyone who changes the exhaust will start to have issues with the active sound being no longer harmonized with the real exhaust sound. You will then be complaining about that. The car sounds great as is.

And the custom tip argument you make is ridiculous. On most exhausts the tips are not the actual pipes. Look at the Akropovic for instance. The tips are bolted on.

I would buy your civic logic if the tips were the actual pipes like on the Dinan Exhaust.

Great. I don't mind labor costs to get this done. My main objective is to preserve the original sound of the car, to drive it in stock form, but to change the tips to ones which are similar in style to OEM but maybe 12mm larger for each tip.

I agree completely, I think I will do this as well if I can find tips I like.

On a different topic, how do you like the Imperial Blue on your 550i? I went with it on my M5 as I wanted something understated. If you have any good pics, I would love to see them.

I like the color a lot. It is both sporty and rich. One of the best colors. You get quite a few comments on it from people, however it does not attract police attention. Here you go. The blueness varies a lot with the light. In some lights it looks like Carbon Black, but in direct sunlight you can see the Sapphire color come out. The blue is very deep which the photos don't capture.

Awesome man, thanks for all the pics! It's a sweet color! I'm trying to keep it as low-key as possible, my clients probably won't appreciate me driving a $100K sedan!

I have to post this, maybe the original Imperial Blue. From 1962.

Dude,

The Active Sound has nothing to do with exhaust note. It only provides an induction engine sound at lower RPM's. Didn't you hear that sound clip that that one guy made with the Active Sound disabled vs enabled?

I am planning on doing a fully catless exhaust setup, hell maybe even without mufflers, who knows. I very much doubt there will be any issues with drone as the exhaust note is so muffled by the turbos and odd manifold setup of the reverse flow V8.

Well in that case the current exhaust sounds perfect.

Stopped at my local dealer the other day and checked out the exhaust tips on their M6 convertible. They are just simple slip on's and can easily be taken off.
I ordered 4 new tips and plan to have them powder coated in shadow line black to replace the current chrome tips (the UK M5 edition (black) tips are not yet available via the parts system) . As others have mentioned Dimsa is also an option I used their tips on my old E90s and they worked great.

Did you order replacement stock tips or upgraded tips before powdercoating?
