Smile Unexpected encounter on the road

Yesterday, on my way home from work, I noticed in my rear view mirror a white Pontiac G6 coupe appeared out of no where. Then I noticed that he was tailgating me. I don't like tailgators but I just ignored him and made my left turn at the intersection. He followed and pulled next to me at the light. His windows were heavily tinted so I just looked the other way and waited for the light to turn green. Then I heard a car honking so when I turned around, I realized it was the G6 next to me. He had his windows down and asked me to roll down my window. At this point, I'm thinking what did I do to piss this guy off... is he going to shoot me...?! I was hesitent but rolled downed the window anyway, to see what he had to say. Then he said, "what a beeeautiful car!! I was looking at your car and was like what's that!!! wow, so nice, really beautiful!" I was shocked and just smiled and said thank you. I sort of wanted to say his car looked nice too (his was white too) but it was too late. I followed him after the light and thought about how the G6 looked so similar to G35... LOL. Anyway, this is the first time that someone actually went out of his way to just give me a compliment on my car. I usually only encounter people who wants to race or just cut right in front of me. That was a nice change!

Nice to see there are fans out there! I wonder if people don't say things like that more often about that car because they figure the driver's head's already swollen enough with the certain rep that Bimmers have already.

I used to get all kinds of compliments on my '03 Cadillac CTS before they became common as dirt. I think the roundel comes off a little more elitist.

Yeah that's pretty cool. Most of the time, especially in LA, I come across dicks who tailgate me or cut me off. And also, e9x's are a dime a dozen in LA lol.

I kind of agree there. I mean I kind of assumed that people with nice cars get compliments all the time... but that's hardly the case. Maybe it's because they are so common in certain parts of the country.

Good story. I had a nice run in at the shell station last friday night. I was minding my business filling up when a guy in a 99-00 civic si was filling up with his gf. They both complimented my ride, and his gf actually gave it a walk around. Call me paranoid, but I can't imagine my gf oogling over some guys 3-series, so I was sure to go over there a talk to him about his very tastefully modded Civ. It was custom turboed with a B18 swap.

Very nice. It is a great looking car, not to be biased. Plus they are not quite common yet.

That's funny, how you mentioned about your gf potentially wooing over other dude's car... I wonder if that guy felt any insecurity? LOL. Nice story nevertheless.

Yes, definitely not common where I live. I'm starting to see E93 but still rare as well.

Hes obviously not a member of this forum otherwise he would have seen how elitist-every-other-manufacturer-hating-fanboys we could really be.

Same thing happened to me

I was stopped in traffic close to a Lincoln LS. Light turned green and I left normally, but it was obvious this person was interested in either me or my car. They'd hang back, then speed up and pass and slow down (but not so much as to cut me off). I was on my way home from work but decided to turn away from my house because I didn't know what this person's intentions were.

Anyhow we exchanged positions a few more times, and finally the person pulls up next to me in a long line of cars at another traffic light. They roll down their passenger window and it was a guy driving with his wife/gf. Apparently she's looking into getting an e92 and she wanted to ask me about it. He had a grin on his face. So it turned out alright.

It sucks that these days there are enough crazies on the road that you have to make a point of minding your own business, and end up questioning everybody's motives

haha yea it's always nice to get compliments!

I had a run in at the gas station this past week when a guy comes up and starts walking around the car. I don't really think much of it, and just ignore it since the area i was in wasn't the greatest and people usually ask for change there (West Oakland). Then in a loud voice he starts to say, "My GOD, that's a gorgeous car!!" "What is that, a Lexus?" hehehe I say thanks, but it's a bimmer. He then proceeds to say, "Wow, your car looks great!! Keep up the good work! Imma buy one of those someday!" Kinda nice when people give compliments. It's rare these days!

Hey, that's cool too but true we get suspicious of people all the time now.

Believe or not, I get the most compliments and head nods from E46 M3 owners. Just next to one and then behind one a week ago. Then he got some distance be cars in front of me were going slow (it was a two lane road in each direction). Next light he got into the left hand turn lane and I was in the right hand lane, pulled up till we were even and looked over, smile and nodded to him, and he did the same.

Also a few weeks ago was in cape cod and just drove buy a guy in a 335i coupe making a left hand turn and he waved with the hand on the steering wheel. Seems like its the 335i/M3 owners that smile and give me compliments.

I was fiiling up at Shell one day and as I come out after paying, I had a guy come over and give me all kind of copliments on my car and that he thought that BMW hit a homerun with the 335 coupe. He said he was going to take one for a test drive. He was driving a 2005 Porsche Carrera S with BBS LM wheels and said he used to own an Evo.
