Arrow Am I the only one on this forum that does this? (pic inside)

Long story short I never bothered putting on my license plates after they came in and just kept one dealership plate in the back. Why so? I live in an area full of red light cameras and don't want to risk getting a red light ticket. I also left the sticker on in the windshield and always keep my car spotless which makes my car look new. Does anyone else do this lol?

Yes, I'm fully aware that it's illegal and I'm willing to pay the $25 fix it ticket if I get pulled over (knock on wood).

Let the flaming begin!!

Had a relative who left dealer plates for the life of the lease. Just don't get pulled over.

Funny you made this thread! I just got pulled over a few weeks for speeding and running a stop sign. The cop noticed my license was not on and gave me a fix it ticket for the plates only (thank god!)

Are you implying that you run the red light andbelieve it is OK as long as you don't get caught???
I consider running the red light one of the worst traffic offenses and that drivers should lose their license instantly for that (just like in some European countries).

That's actually true...

In fact driving without plates is illeagel as well here. When they stop you without plates, you get a hugh ticket and you are not allowed the drive the car anymore without having to get the plates...

I looked it up, it's $140 fine for driving without plates... (Switzerland). In Germany there are cases where they can give you 1 year jail

If you ignore a red light and you have an accident. Insurance will not pay for any damage. Heavy fines and a law suit for endangering people is also possible...(Europe)

YOU DON'T JUMP A RED LIGHT EVER!!!

No, I do not ever deliberately run red lights and I completely agree with you that it is very dangerous. I should have probably clarified this in my first post but I meant was for instance, lets say I was making a left turn on green and the car in front of me decides to slow down for whatever reason. The light turns yellow and I end up being stuck in the middle of an intersection. I then have very little time to drive out of there before that light turns red and the cameras flash.

Another example would be me being in a rush and not coming to a COMPLETE stop when making a right turn. We've all done this at one point or another.

Again, I do not ever intentionally run any red lights that have cameras just because I can get away with it.

This was directed toward people in the US. Where I live 99% of the time it's only a fix it ticket. But yes most other countries have severe penalties about not having license plates so it wouldn't work for you guys.

I think you're the only person I've ever heard of that does this. You could buy the escort 9500ix radar detector - it will inform you which lights have red light cameras. Good luck, hope you don't get caught

This seems pretty ridiculous IMO.

First, red light cameras that I've heard of are actually video cameras and not still cameras. Thus, your scenario would be reviewed by a human and you wouldn't be ticketed. Even if you were, the evidence against you is a video which you can explain to a judge.

Additionally, around here they don't just take pictures of people running reds that way, they will also ticket you if you don't stop for a full 3 seconds before making a right on red.

Third, my E39 was totaled by a guy running a red (so red it had turned green the other way), had lots of room to stop, clearly started to stop but then decided to floor it again (or something) after I began my turn. Luckily my children were not in the car. This is why I'm an E90 owner. There's now a special place in my heart for people who run reds.

If you're afraid of getting a red light ticket, then don't run red lights. Put your plates on.

So, you think it's a good idea to do this so you can run red lights? WTF?

Do they tell you if there's any cross traffic too? Or do you just run the red light and hope you don't kill someone?

I agree--and surprising about CA is that you can do that, tool around in an unidentifiable vehicle. The penalty should be the same as driving an unregistered vehicle.

Why not use the carpool lane while you're at it, OP? Just shows that there are all kinds out there up with their schemes.

Red light cams and speed cams, and soon to be stop sign cams, they've been around for how long? And people still don't understand how they work? That's pretty scary.

The only way you're gonna get a ticket when you shouldn't is if the yellow was monkeyed with. Otherwise, the camera does not lie nor make mistakes.

If that was true then there would be no class action lawsuits agains red light cams. Here in NJ a whole bunch of towns suspend their use when after it turned out that they where not calibrated correctly, nor tested every six months as required. Seems as many people have said that the yellow light timing was off causing the light to turn red much quicker then it did before the camera was installed.

Next on Yahoo news: Dumbass in a white BMW without tags running red lights, did not get ticketed, however, body was maimed by an 18 wheeler.

To the OP
Yes you will ge pulled over by local cops once they start seeing your car around. And if you get pulled over for some other violation they will nail you for the plates too. I mean your registration card shows the month the car was registered as does your insurance card. Plus you got dark tints on so you already stand out as is. So a bored cop will first nail you for tints and then slam you for your plates.

I normally dont comment on threads like these, but do you know how many people are dead because of others running red lights intentionally or not?

And then to come on a public forum and ask for an opinion on what the steps your taking to avoid being caught doing it?

Sorry dude... no support for me, i hope the ticket is bigger than a fixit WHEN not if you get caught.

OP, I do it too.. I took my plate off in January of this year when Long Tran sent me a bunch of fake ones to pass out at meets. Just never put my real one back one. Ive been pulled over twice for it. Both times I said I just got back from a photoshoot and acted like I forgot to put my original plate back on. Never have gotten a ticket.. There are way to many speed cameras down here that always flash me. (and I mean going 5mph over the limit..total bullshit) Ive been hit about 7-8 times with those speed cameras and saved myself $$$ in ticket money by running a fake plate.

Cops here really have better things to worry about than someone who doesnt have a plate on. My neighbor is a cop and just shakes his head at me lol

Part of the reason Im not really concerned about running no plate is I work for an attorneys office that does this for a living. My bosses have each promised me one "get out of jail free card" for my plate if ever I was to get a ticket and for my 5% tint if I ever get a ticket lol.

In NJ, they're operational today/again.

Here's how simple it is. Running a red light means, the light turned red, and you have not yet reached the stop line. If you're already in the intersection when the light turns red, you have not run the light.

There has to be a picture of your vehicle behind the line, when the light turned red. People should stop acting like politicians. There's a pic of their hand reaching up an intern's skirt, yet they try to claim that there was something wrong with the camera.

It's hilarious. In this day and age, does a person shoplift? Of course not, risk v. reward is not there. But an idiot would wear a hoodie and try it anyway. I guess there are those who would also believe it's not necessary to have a license plate, and if caught, are prepared to have some story to tell as well.

What I always wonder, is, and this is rhetorical. WHAT IS YOUR PRICE TO CHEAT? I think if you're willing to cheat over a $90 rlc ticket, there's got to be lots of other things you're willing to cheat over. Everybody has their price. If you offer me 400 bil. dollars in a gym bag, who knows what I'm capable of?
