Custom gauge. Pictures / video

Ive been too busy lately with work and everything to keep doing projects on my car.

But anyways I just got back home a week ago and droped my car off at a friends custom fabbing place.

Ive been meaning to do a replacement gauge for a while since I had a steering wheel pod/gauge for testing.

If you guys know me I like my car looking stock, so I wanted something OEM looking and something I can hide.

The original idea was to make a custom pod and place it in my corner or my dash. I didnt want that, so I opted to put it in the ash tray holder.

I know some of you are saying " you wont be able to see the gauge. " We did it so the gauge is angled towards the driver so the numbers are visable.

The stick doesnt get in the way of the gauge also.

There had to be cutting done to the placment holder itself so the pod could fit and close.

The gauge itself is a custom gauge. Theres a corner light that can be used as an over boot light, or whatever else you want.

My car is going back in the shop next week when i head back to work to get some performance mods in.

Heres a quick clip

The ring here is aluminum but was changed to black in the install.

installed with leather trim :

Little clip. Ill take more later if people are interested.

Looks good. Other than the "you cant see it" reason for me not putting mine in the ashtray was because I already have my V1 stealth pod in there.

What a teaser though, how come you didnt start the car so we can see what vacuum looks like? It seems because its sunk in, it might be hard to see the left side of the gauge from the drivers seat. Does it have memory function?

Ya it has a memory function.

Im not sure how other people sit . But the pod was made for me so its angled towards the way i sit in the chair.

Im getting my cig lighter taken out also. To put my purge switch there.

Also for the AFR gauge im going to probably take out my driver side cup holder and have it spring towards me. Im going to have a little digital AFR gauge.

All the stuff I have taken out to put my gauges / other stuff is all because I dont use it in the first place.

Interesting. Looks like you beat me to it.

Option 1 was for my gauge to go there. My buddy is measuring the stock ashtry as we speak on the FARO arm. Did you have any problems with the depth of the gauge? Also do you think it would hit the door if the lip of the gauge were on the outside of the mount?

Option 2 is a complete replacement of the exisiting ashtry mechanism with double pods lifted and tilted toward the driver.

Nice job.

Thanks,

Option 2: I was going to do also. But it was too much of a hassle to make the pod swing up and angel towards the driver. "Hassle" I mean by the room thats there to work with.

We tried it with it being "spring loaded" But the door of the tray would always be in the way.

I wanted to keep it as stock as possible so I just angeled the gauge / pod towards myself.

There was a few probs with the depth of it fitting in the ash tray. Thats where he had to cut pieces out to make it to fit.

Ya the gauge will hit the door unless you go with a smaller digital gauge. I really dont like digtal gauges for Boost only AFR.

That gauge looks awesome!

Is it a 52mm gauge? Do you know if its mechanical or electronic? I wonder if we could get a group buy going. I already have a cheap mechanical VDO boost gauge in my car, but I would be interested in just buying the gauge if they wanted to sell them.

Did you just gut the back of the inner tray? Looks like you have to. Thats not a problem though.

I dont know if you answered this or not. But if the lip of the gauge were on the OUTSIDE would it fit?

That gauge looks awesome. I'm definetly interested on how i can get my hands on it. Plus the aluminum trim around the gauge will match perfectly with my aluminum trim in my car.

Its an electronic gauge.

I could see what I can do about a group buy if enough are interested.

I just talked to him before I left and he said he would be interested in doing gauges if people are interested.

Ya have to gut the whole inner tray. The gauge's depth is bigger than the stock inner tray.

It would fit but will not close. Your best bet if you dont want to do custom fabbing, it would be to go with the zentronics digital gauge.
