Shift knob

To remove it do you leave it in neutral or put it in a gear.

Also do you just sit on the console and pull up.

Does anyone know of anyone good shift knobs.

Put that bad boy in 2nd gear and pull real hard. Be very careful as when it does come off, you may almost hit yourself in the face. Speaking from personal experience obviously.

after reading through the forum and the some suggestions matching above, this is how i changed my shift knob.

1. Sit on the passenger seat.
2. put the gear in 4th (2nd is too left for this position).
3. try to pull the knob out, make sure your head is not in the way. by sitting in passenger side you are in safer position.
4. here is the main tip: try to add torque like power in straight motion instead of instant pickup, does this make sense?
5. the knob comes out fairly easy as compared to scary stories on this forum.

good luck.

shift knob: I got the perforated leather M3 shift knob from **********s. Its about 1 cm shorter than the stock knob which made it more comfortable. I'm really liking it, its very comfortable for me.

Make sure you pull up the shift boot first.

I just saw a thread were the guy did not pull the boot up first and he pulled so hard he ripped the shift boot right under the knob.

Yeah, you may want to move the mirror to the side as well. Just in case your hands come up that high when it comes off. The key is to use a quick jerking motion, not just a tug or steady pull. As said, it's not that hard to get off, but you do need a bit of a jerk up to get it to release.

Cool that's the one I was going to get. Glad you told me about someone else that sells it. I was going to buy it directly from BMW.

I think he means the rearview. Try to move it a little so you don't smash it with your hand.

Don't smack yourself in the face when you pull it out- like a lot of people do.

Yup. All sound advice. I cracked my windshield removing mine a few years ago.

Get the ZHP knob! It's amazing and you can order it directly from BMW if you want. I don't have the part number off hand but search and you will find a bunch of threads. Best knob IMO. I've had it on 3 cars now.
