Finished lease end pre-inspection: Too late to replace things myself?
Just got back from my pre-inspection and one rear tire is a bit low on thread. Dealer charging $300, so I wanted to know if it is too late for me to swap it out with a used one prior to turn-in. Does anyone know if BMW requires that I put a new tire on it now that it has been "documented"?

All of my lease-end inspections allowed me to replace anything that they planned on charging me for - it didn't need to be brand new, it just needed to meet their requirements (there was a scratch longer than a pen so they were going to charge me for it, I took it to a local place and $50 later it was shorter than a pen, much cheaper than the $400+ I was going to be charged by the financing company), so I'd think a used tire with sufficient tread would be OK.

You MUST use a Run flat tire OEM spec tire approved by BMW. Also, you should replace them two at a time, and I would be highly surprised if they let you get away with just one. Total would most likely be close to 700 bucks. Better off to pay the 300 IMHO.

If your CA wants the sale (if your buying another from him), ask him to look in the shop and find one that doesn't meet their requirements, yet passes the lease return requirements. Tell him you will go somewhere else and buy from them.
