Help: Replacing Windshield Trim

Hey all, I have heard from many that it is very common for 1999-2007 BMW's regardless of series to have their windshield trim (where windshield meets the roof of car, the rubber strip) deteriorate from the heat. Half of mine is completely gone and I am looking to replace it. I have heard of some people doing it themselves and wanted to give it a try. I went to the BMW parts store and bought the piece for 30$ and stopped by the collision center next door to just ask for any tips. The manager said that in order to install the trim I need to completely take out the windshield from the car. I'm kind of thinking he was just trying to get me to go to them for the repair because that kind of sounds crazy. The windshield is completely original and has never been replaced. Has anyone done this before, what part did you use and how did you do it? Looking at the Trim Strip from BMW, I do see how it is designed to kind of sandwich the windshield but I am sure their are ways around the part of taking off your windshield. Thanks

I just did this on my moms 3 series and mine a month or two ago. You Do Not have to remove the windsheild. I followed one diy on here and got it installed but one end of the molding i wasnt happy with how it came out. Then for the second time i youtubed for a diy and saw the guy started with both ends of the molding in the middle and worked both ends of the new molding to the edge of the windshield and this made it fit perfectly.
Very simple amd easy Diy maybe 30-45 mins. Depends how much prep work you want to do.
