Lemon Laws + Tunes
I have a 2008 E90 335i that I'm thinking about tuning with GIAC Stage 1 or 2.
The guy I was talking to said that I shouldn't worry about any warranty issues since the N54 has been "lemon law'd", implying that any issues have to be covered by warranty since there are known issues with the engine. Is this true? Even if its not, I'm still thinking about getting the tune. Everything I've read on here seems to indiciate that the GIAC tune is holding up well and hasn't really introduced any issues to peoples cars. Thoughts? Thanks! |

I have never heard of this. If your car is out of warranty then BMW will not fix it [for free] - just like any other vehicle/dealership.
That being said, BMW did extend the warranty for the Fuel Pump and Turbo/Wastegates (I think only for the rattle). I forget the specific numbers but I think something like 10yr/100k and 8yr/84k respectively (but don't hold me to that) - so if either of those two items fail within that time-frame BMW will probably fix it. However, with a tune I can see them raising a fuss stating that they will not fix anything turbo related.
