Smile 2007 E90 335i with 90K ???

Looking into getting a 2007 335i with 90,000 miles for $16,000 Im really serious about this vehicle. What are some things I should look for and what do I have to replace? The car is a Sport Package with Navigation and is stock without any mods. Don't know if it has the oil cooler. Any advice or help would greatly help.

At 16k it sounds like a good deal! You can look right behind the passenger side of the bumper (inside the wheel well) and you can easily see if theres the oil cooler or not...

ok thanks I will check the fender, another way to tell is to pop the hood and see if there are lines coming off the oil filter area...any other issues I need to know with this mileage?

Does it have a clear title? That is insanely cheap (even more so if it's an e92).

Get the most recent maintenance/history record and see what type of work was done within the past 20-30K miles. This will give you an idea on how much money you will have to spend to get it up to current standards. Save to say that it will cost about $1K-$2K to get it to prime shape if you're having an indi work on the car after the purchase.

and remember that after 120k you're not covered for the HPFP.... which isn't cheap to replace

If it's got the sport package, it has an oil cooler.
All sport package 335i/s had/have oil cooler.

That is pretty cheap considering 2007 335s with 100k+ miles are going for $18-$20k on autotrader. Take it to an indy to have an inspection. Are you a DIYer?

Except most 2007s some of us did get it retrofitted though.

Pull the service records, verify an oil cooler or not. I'm honestly not sure if all 2007's were equipped but you can find out easily. You're past the waste gate rattle/turbo warranty but still under the HPFP umbrella.

Check to see if the intake valves have been cleaned (walnut blasted), injectors, spark plugs, oil changes, belts. Basically pull the records as I mentioned and you'll be able to see what you're working with. GL

Yes I'm a little DIYer but I do have a friend that knows the N54 pretty well and a few local shops that are pretty good. If I get the car can I just take it to the dealer and have them replace the HPFP? I will most likely put aside 1k-2k to do spark plugs, injectors, coil packs, brakes, oil changes etc. I don't know too much about replacing the turbos or the waste gate this will be my first Turbo car. I really like the BMW name and I have had a E90 328i in the past just want something more fun. I will most likely do the DCI, and golftee mod....and maybe a slight tune. Just want to know if this N54 is strong and will last another 100K for me?

You must be out of your mind to even consider any 335 with over 75k. The car is junk.

why you say that? I've seen a lot of people with high mileage ones with tunes etc. Or is there another car you would consider getting?

Why is everyone talking about the oil cooler so much? I hardly think determination of an oil cooler should be a primary factor in considering this car, it's not like only oil cooler-equipped cars live past 100k. N54 runs hot, but has this caused any known issues?

As many others have mentioned, maintenance history is important as well as checking out the known issues - water pump, injectors, coils, hpfp, wastegates, etc. and re-negotiate the price based on any of them not checking out (or reconsider altogether). Don't base your decision on whether or not it's been walnut blasted, just get the intakes checked/scoped when you buy it (or just get them done regardless). Not having them cleaned until this point won't kill the car, but they do need to be serviced.

Also IFX is just trolling, please don't turn this into another "what? Why does this car suck?" thread. It will derail and go absolutely nowhere.

What is Walnut Blasted? I called my local dealer Reeves BMW and gave them the VIN number of the car. The service guy told me all the service had been performed at Fields BMW in Orlando and the car has CPO until 05/13. It also had the HPFP changed in 07/10. I heard of a new service bulletin that came out yesterday 08/15/12 regarding turbos and wastegates? I know I will have to do normal service such as plugs, coils, waterpump, injectors etc.

Early production E90 335is didn't come with an oil cooler regardless of sports package or not. It was added later during the 07 production run. A buddy of mine has an 07 335i without it. Mine was an 08 so I definitely had it.

If I'm not mistaken, this applies to California residents/owners only.

If the car doesnt have a oil cooler not a big deal i can always put on on. So with this new recall what does it cover turbo and wastegates?
