Exclamation F30 Wind Noise

F30 328i Luxury Line, Imperial Blue with Saddle Brown Interior....Sounds Great right?

YES

But

Noticeable Wind Noise at the passenger side above 80KM/H, is this normal for the F30? have you noticed it before? What can I do to fix it?

If not then:

Take a friend with you for a ride drive above 80KM/H and check it out and let me know your feedback!!

Ask the dealer to check the window glass positioning. Could be an easy fix for the dealer....

Sorry I can't. I brought it to the dealer the day after I purchased and had a tech drive it. Some piece of trim was literally backwards from the factory. If you really need I can call my dealer and ask what the trim was, but you should just go in yourself. Should be fixed for free.

This is a known problem with Saddle Brown and Imperial Blue which is why I went with Saddle Brown and Mineral Grey. The color spectrum on Imperial Blue is too wide and as the car approaches 81KM/H the frequency of the F30's sound waves find their match against the road air hitting the paint and the subsequent vibration makes a loud buffering noise.

Do you have an Earl Scheib near you?

I can't believe you fell for that f30 is not a quiet car by any means, but a specific noise should be checked.

Play music, it should drown out road and wind noise. I never take off until the music is cranked up. Raise it high enough and you won't hear the kids whinning in the back or the nagging from the passenger seat either.

From what I've read online and based off 3 test drives (3 separate cars), this is more common than it should be. In my experience the noise was consistently on the drivers side and super annoying. It was such a big deal for me, that I walked away from a purchase until the dealership fixed the issue.

3 days later, I got a call that the trim around the front window needed to be replaced... I went in, test drove the car, couldn't hear the noise and bought it that day.

I'd bring it to your dealer - this seems like a common problem and BMW is sending out replacement parts fairly quick.

I hadn't noticed that until I drove a 328i loaner.
There was quite a bit of road/tire noise in the rear cabin area.
Audio louder fixed it.
But, when I got back in my 135i I was shocked at how much quieter my 135i is. Strange. I didn't notice this as much on the BMW drive event test driving a 335i with 19's.

IIRC, the E90 seemed quieter inside.
Anyone who owned an E90 and now F30 can you compare the overall interior noise at highway speeds?

I'd have to agree as the specified shade of blue tends to alter the wind's directionality, giving it a whirling pattern around the doors. This has been proven in a wind tunnel.

Have not noticed any difference in wind noise across 3 different 3-series beauties.

Sweet. No wind noise on my E46 M3 at 120. But am interested to see if my trim is installed properly on the F30 when she's done.

I also have wind noise around the driver's window at speeds greater than 80km/h (50mph) on my Aussie (Right Hand Drive) F30 (Mineral Grey). Will be taking into the service department to look at.
