Question. What's that under the seats?

I have a 2011 335i E92. Under both the drivers and passenger seats there is a plastic panel, perforated, and black.

Any idea what this is for? I was thinking an amp or maybe a speaker for bass??

The reason I ask is a friend spilled a medium Diet Coke from McDonalds between the passenger door and seat and it all flowed down. I soaked it all up but a but went on that panel and want to make sure it didn't mess anything up. I took 4 of the screws off and tried to soak up what I could. I just couldn't get access to the others as they were too far under the seat.

Hope nothing got f'd up!

Do I have anything to worry about?

PS- please no flaming about allowing people to eat or drink in the car

They are 8" midbass drivers. You should unbolt the seats and lean them back and you should be able to remove the grills and clean them. Just don't unplug the seat wires or you will get an airbag light that will have to be reset by the dealer.

As for being flamed...

My son spilled ginger ale down there and it killed my woofer. You should check if the woofer is working by shifting the balance back and forth. I was very fortunate to have gotten mine replaced under warranty.

My wife put some paper under the seat and it sounded like a blown speaker. I had her digging in the glove box and ish looking for the rattle. Then I remembered under seat woofers and asked if she put something under the seat. Good info about cleaning them.

I think if you disconnect the battery you can unplug the seat without throwing off the airbag. Atleast it was for my e46 m3 when I changed the seats.

WARNING! THIS IS DANGEROUS!

Any work concerning airbags are a highly risky thing if you are not sure what you are doing!!!

ALWAYS BE SAFE

Maybe you are safe with this! You don't know who is reading this!

If something involves doing things wich could harm other people (there are idiots on this planet) you NEVER say its harmless! An airbag exploding in your face isn't nothing...

I know that for you it isn't a big thing! Try to understand me pls...

I think it was meant originally as it will "throw an airbag" CODE. Not BAM, Airbag. It takes more than connect/ disconnect to make an airbag go boom. Not that it couldn't happen for some unknown reason but not horribly likely.

Besides if it goes BOOM we get a cool story.
