Michelin Pilot Sports

Got my car back from service today to remove some interior squeeking, and I got to talking to the parts guy over at BMW of SD, and we just starting talking about how much we both hated RFTs, and he had the suggestion to making the switch to Michelin Pilot Sport tires, which I know are pretty good and sticky tires. I think the M3 uses the PS2s and has something like .07g better on the skidpad than a sport package equipped 335 does.

Has anyone made the change to the Pilot Sports from RFTs? Was it worth it? I know those tires are less than the RFTs, and my tires have about 3k miles on them, so if I am going to get rid of those suckers, I want to do it immediately. Thanks for the input...searched around for a bit but only came up with Pilot Sport on posted reviews of the E92 M3. Thanks!

I changed to Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's (235 19's in front and 265 19's in the back) and have been happy with them - there was a good Tirerack sponsored study in Car and Driver a year or more ago using the 3-series, and I liked how these performed - a good balance of dry and wet performance. I hear good things about the Pilot Sports too though.

When you do away with RFT the ride will improve for sure and handling won't suffer. The Pilot Sports PS2 and Goodyear F1 GS D3 are both excellent tires. The PS2 is better on dry road and the F1 is unbeatable in the wet.

Im sure there are plenty of owners that are now running pilot sports and they'll chime in. They are awesome tires. The PS2's are almost unbeatable (besides r comps) for dry traction. The GS-D3 (eagle f1) are excellent as well and they're great for the wet conditions.

I recently made the change from Dunlop 8080s(?) to Pilot Sport PS2s on my E39 M5. Not quite an apples to apples comparison to your 335i but I can vouch for these tires as being quiet, grippy, communicative and decent in the rain. Worth the price. Only downside is the low treadwear rating which is the tradeoff with a high performance tire.

I had several sets of PS2s on my E46 and just loved them, they really are all they are claimed to be.

I will put them on my E90 once my Kuhmo's wear out, I just couldnt affored them at the time as I was doing, wheels and suspension upgrades all at once.

The Mich. PS2s are phenomenal...much better traction and handling than the RFTs, especially for when you have PROcede.

BTW PS2 now come in a run flat version, with tires available in the staggered sport package 18" sizes. My boss just got a set for his Z4.

PS2's are the best max performance summer tire out there, IMO.

Still not in the league of an extreme performance tire, but at the top of the level just below.

Never switched from RFT's but my PS2's on my Audi were the best tires i've ever owned bar none. Just as grippy as the B.Stone Pole Positions and even quieter and like twice the treadware as the B.stones ( I barely got 12K out of the Pole Position S03's). They would be my first choice if I were looking to upgrade.

You guys (and gals) are awesome, thanks a lot for the input, makes my decision a bit easier now...just have to sell those damn RFTs now, haha. I will go with the PS2s though, as I live in San Diego and really have no need for great 'wet' tires.

I love my PS2s. Fantastic tire, handles very well. And are also quiet for their size

The PS2s are also very good in the rain as well as hot, dry pavement.

I have PS2's also. The only thing I dont like is how thick the side walls, I like the lower profile look.

Yeah, we don't have cold pavement where I'm located, but we do have a lot of heavy rain now and then.

The skidpad gets worse with PS2. Test it with Bridgestones, make the change and test again. You will see
