I'd never tell them. But if shit hits the fan (accident) they might only pay for the original OEM rim(s).

[QUOTE=Hunter51092]If that's the case.. They would probably quote dealer price for oem rims and would have to pay even more than to replace an aftermarket rim.. Depending on the brand of rim of coarse

I'll wait the first year... Then every year i'll inform my insurance of some mod... That way they don't touch my premium
And if they do it... i'll call somebody

My insurance company never asked but I think I may need to claim some mods...$3000 wheels are not something I want to lose out on if I hit a gigantor pothole! Not even sure they would cover that but still....

I actually asked my adjuster about this when he was estimating damages to my car from a hail storm (out of curiosity, since none of my major aftermarket parts were damaged). He said that usually, if you can provide receipts they will cover your aftermarket parts as part of the claim. Not sure that would fly for $4,000 wheels, but for smaller items they may just work with you as part of the claim. I had my original trim vinyl wrapped before the claim, and the insurance/body shop is replacing with OEM shadowline, for example, since the trim had a small dent in it. Technically it did not need to be replaced but I guess Allstate didn't know how to reimburse me for the vinyl (or didn't want to go through the hassle of figuring that out with the shop) so they just replaced the whole trim set and didn't ask any questions.
Same goes for other small things like window tint. Technically that is "aftermarket" but my back windshield is being re tinted at the shop since it was tinted before I filed the claim. What the adjuster kept telling me is that they return the car in "exactly the same condition as it was in before the claim."

In California, (Farmers Insurance), I got my aftermarket rims added for $2000 value on my Lancer, with some $25 extra premium for extra $2000 worth of accessories protection. |
