Nice spec! It's good to see someone else hitting the option list hard With mine being my first BMW I figured I owed it to myself to make it as good as I could realistically persuade Mrs B to let me The dealer was very prepared to haggle and so I came away with a good deal and a good APR.
I would have gone for the x drive but couldn't wait for the 320d version that is apparently going to follow at some point. Hopefully only 2 weeks to go till I get mine though which I think will be the longest wait of my life!

Great spec, wish I had ticked a few more boxes now. Seriously considered Tanzanite instead of Estoril. Dealer gave me 11%, sure there was more to be had but lack of showroom air con curtailed negotiations. Post some pics rj, she sounds fab.

I think the option list almost becomes an addiction I made so many additions from the original spec. It was only when I added the individual options that my spec was locked and that was that. Probably just as well though otherwise I think I'd have talked myself into ticking everything

Tell me about it. After waiting for 3 months now it's finally getting to the light at the end of the tunnel stage.
I think I'm getting a bit obsessed though. I've got my dealer sending me updates every day so am as up to date as I can be, although he's been off today so I'm in the dark. Last update showed status 9605: Pre EU Port of Exit. Fingers crossed it's made it to the port and on a boat since yesterday

Didn't see xdrive on the configurator. Must have a look, may be getting myself a 320d msport trying to keep monthlies down when ticking options is really hard.

Yeah only in 2.0 petrol for now although apparently will be in diesel from Jan 2013. I've had a few Audi a4 quattros that have totally sold me on benefits of four wheel drive especially in the wet so a four wheel drive 3 series is my perfect car, love beamers.

Hey Cooledude,
Thanks for you comments. I am really looking forward to xdrive. I had a 320i auto on a test drive last weekend and had drive a manual too. The engine was amazingly flexible. I am not saying it is anything like as quick or nice as its bigger brothers but it was plenty quick and I had forgotten how quiet petrol is. At 90mph it is only doing 2000rpm. I have a 3.0tdi a4 quattro and had a Z4MC so am used to quick engines but couldn't fault it. Must be getting old as I am also looking forward to sensible running costs. Went a bit mad with the options but the thing is going to depreciate anyway so I might as well enjoy it, I am buying it for me and not to sell on. How is the 2.0d? What spec did you go for? |

I do hope xdrive helps in snow....the staggered wheel setup makes the normal RWD a bit of a challenge

Hi TMP, thanks for your positive comments.
Dealer is trying to get it brought forward, not sure if the RHD xdrive delays the build or perhaps does not make it a priority for the factory. What are you driving? |

Hi guys. Ordered a 320i xDrive MSport on 2/7, and just a couple of weeks ago I finally got a production date of wk 41 (w/b 8th Oct), with delivery a few weeks later.
I was initially told to expect delivery in early September, but it looks like BMW has pushed back production of the RHD xDrives for some reason. BTW, from everything I've read AWD only helps with traction in the snow, i.e. getting moving. It won't improve cornering or braking performance, for which you need winter tyres. I'm no expert, but this is my summary of endless Internet research I've undertaken. That's a hell of a spec you've gone for! Fully kitted out, very nice! |

xdrive seems to be a bit controversial. Using Quattro as a yardstick, that has been portrayed for years as a huge safety innovation giving traction in snow, extreme wet and cornering I don't see why xdrive should be inferior.
Xdrive is, if anything, a more sophisticated system than quattro and the logic of four driven wheels rather than two with a computer able to move the power before traction is lost, would to me seem that it has all the benefits of quattro and more. Admittedly I am sold on the idea. There are other factors such as tyres and ride height, but as I have previously mentioned, Quattro has been fantastic for me and speaking to people who live in more wintry conditions who say xdrive is unbeatable even on normal tyres, I think it will be huge saftey innovation that we in the UK have been deprived of for so long. Just my opinion but think we can only say for sure when we have tried it out. |

Just hear from dealer today that she now has been assigned a VIN and showing code 5055 that means confirmed for production. I feel like the scientist in 'Short Circuit' - she is alive!
All very exciting. Went a bid mad with more extras last week incl Lane departure warning, blind spot detection, active cruise and servotronic steering! I know I must be mad, I seemingly no longer trust myself to keep a car within the white lines, change lane safely or pay attention to the road ahead and be able to brake! Any ideas about how long from production to delivery in other members' experiences? |
