Need help on tires

I was looking for some all seasons in 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 and there are none in my price range and here are the remaining ones that I am thinking about (I believe they are all summer tires):

Falken 452
Toyo T1R
Yoko AVS ES100
Nitto NT 555
Avon M Tech 500

Here are what I am looking for: good wet traction and can perform in cold weather/good cornering/comfortabe ride and low noise (the first being the most important)
I am leaning towards the first three as I had Nitto before and it sucked in wet and Avon has a very soft sidewall. Anybody has any input?

I don't know I have 3 friends that have BFG tires and they have never had problems with it.

I hope you don't mind what is your price range? I have a friend that knows a great website for tires but I can't remember the name, I can ask him tomorrow.

the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport you can get them on tirerack for $586 or the Avon Tech M500 for $534

the BFG have better tread wear than the Avon.

go to tirerack and read the reviews and tests

good luck

I would go with the T1R's.

Best bet is to just get some snow tires for winter, they're all pretty cheap and work MUCH better in the snow than a no season tire.

No seasons dont do anything well, but can be used in a wide range of temps, which is why they get an all season rating.

Basically, cheap summer tires AND cheap winter tires > expensive no seasons

All of these tires will have limited grip below 38 degrees, and it gets worse as temp goes down. The Falkens have a good wet grip in higher temps.

How about the Kumho Ecsta ASX. They are UHPAS and get pretty good reviews. They will cost about $560 delivered from the Tire Rack. The only other A/S tires in that size are the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S and the Yokohama Advan S.4, but they will cost about $150 to $250 more respectively.

Kumho ASX's rear are on backorder.
PZero Nero has some "groove trailing" issue from what the forum members said.
I was considering the Yoko Advan S4 but then I don't know what is the difference between the AVS and the Advan and AVS has some good reviews. I don't really like the softness of Avon's sidewall. It probably doesn't affect cornering ability but it feels weird. I had them and they were great otherwise.
For Falken 452, I don't know why some people complained about them and I am suspecting that they were mixing up with the older model 451 and that was what is holding me back.
It seems that the safest choice might be the Toyo T1R but then I don't hear from that many people on this forum about them.

I know all of the above will perform the same for 90% of the time of driving and I just want to see if somebody can tell me the subtle differences between them, mainly the T1R, AVS and 452 as I had the other two before and probably would want to try something different this time

This isnt on your list but what about General Exclaim UHP?? They're cheap and you can use them in light mud and snow.

I have heard several people say they were impressed by the T1-Rs. There are lots of threads discussing and praising T1-Rs:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=toyo+t1r

But I have also heard some people on this forum who haven't been so happy. Including one member who claimed to be a former Toyo Tire dealer who said that the T1-Rs suck:

Conti 2s - 3 diffent sets on 3 different cars.
Falken ST-115 (very short lived. awful tire)
Pirelli PZero Nero
3 sets of Mich PS2s on Audi S4s and mkV GTI
RE050A on 330i ZHP
PS2s on 330i ZHP
RE050A RFT on 335i
Toyo T1Rs on 335i

I would NEVER buy these tires again.
I had to really play with PSIs to get ride of horrid understeering.
Grip is MEDIOCRE at best.
I know that my buddies Generals Exc. have better grip than these T1Rs.
They TramLine(wander in grooves) like crazy on concrete freeways (here in LA)

I think there are lots of better options out there now..I am going to try Michelin PS2 tires this time....for my daily driver..and I will get some other R compounds for dedicated track use.

I thought that the sidewalls just felt like jelly, they are crap IMO.
Car and Driver ranked T1-Rs eighth out of eleven tires:

Quote:
Eighth Place - Toyo Proxes T1R

Toyo says its new T1R has "high-modulus bead apex rubber." You probably don't know what that means, and neither do we. This wasn't much more clear: "Spiral-wound, jointless edge and capplies." If this test were based on no comprendo engineer-speak, Toyo would win.

In fact, the Proxes never placed higher than eighth in any test, and in two dry tests, the autocross and the skidpad, the Toyo finished last, trailing the top finishers by significant margins. In some tests it felt better than it actually was performing, but overall, Geswein noted it was "soft and imprecise" and didn't "feel like a sport tire."

In the end, the Toyo has its high wear grade (280) and attractive price ($135) to thank for its eighth-place finish. In performance terms, there are lots of tires that do better. Perhaps a new set of "capplies" would help.
Then again...I think you'll never get a tire that gets all positive reviews...it's hard to satisfy everyone...nonetheless I have seen Michelin PS2s and General UHPs (which unfortunately are unavailable in your tire size) get the most favourable reviews on these forums.

At your price range and tire size I would look closely at the Falken 452's.

Thanks for all the inputs
I also used Michelin PS, Conti, RE050A and they probably are the best tires out there but then again they also cost about twice the amount

I think PS2s and Goodyear Eagle F1s get the best reviews here. Generals get good reviews because they are cheap, but they are a lower tier tire IMO.

Nope...not just your opinion, you are right.

TireRack categorizes the PS2s and Eagle F1s in the Max Performance summer tire category...and the General Exclaims and Kumho Ecsta SPTs are ranked in the lower tier, Ultra High Performance summer tire category.

Having said that I've been a little worried about the quality control issues of Goodyear Eagle F1s...given the complaints of flat spotting by some members of this forum.

I agree, I was worried about the quality control as well but I couldn't change my order to PS2s. So far so good, I'm crossing my fingers.
