Just passed by the local dealer...Is this too much to pay for an M5?

Just saw the M5 for the first time in person. It looks absolutely stunning. I can't wait for mine to arrive in 3 weeks. But here are some pictures snapped with the Iphone. Mark up is ridiculous.

That markup is just laughable...$120+ for an M5?? I can't imagine someone jumping on that.

It's CA someone may do it pending on how long the waiting list, or he drops it's to a 5k mark up. I would bet it does not go at MSRP. Unreal

pretty much all the places i've seen here in the east coast are selling at MSRP, maybe even a little under, no need to pay "market value" as there are cars available here. As long as you're comfortable buying site unseen, you could get a car shipped from east to west coast for about 1500 and save quite a bit.

well, the dealer can make claim to any value ... but is it legal to sell for more than the MSRP in the US ?

Agree completely. Have not heard of anyone out here getting a mark-up, and in fact I've talked to a few people who got their dealer to knock $1k, $2k off of MSRP for being a multiple car, long-term customer.

Yes. Since MSRP is just the SUGGESTED retail price, dealer's can charge whatever the market will support. The question is, who's dumb enough (or just has money to burn) to pay a mark-up. That is guaranteed, 100% depreciation the second you drive off the lot.

wow, that's just ridiculous. I received $2k off my M5, and I was disappointed!!!!
I really thought i was going to do better, considering how loyal a customer I've been to my local dealer.

That will burn up some capital. Dealer will probably end up paying more than $15K in floor planning to carry that note before someone pays that price

I guess I can understand why a dealer would do that. Theyre simply taking a shot that some schmuck with a buck will walk in off the street and just say, "I'll take it". If it sits for too long, they'll eliminate the mark up and sell it to a real customer. Cant fault them for trying to make $. There's really not much $ in these cars these days for them. No one in this forum would ever bite but there are plenty of Mr. Magoo's out there who would.

I went to sit in a silver M5 at the dealership in Berkeley this weekend. They are asking $20k over MSRP.

Tear the poster and stick it in the dealers ass. That's 911 territory.I hope there aren't any fools ready to fall for that.

Mine is on the vessel eta September 14th. Yes I'm paying MSRP, will never pay over MSRP. Sales manager would not give me anymore off even though our family bought 10 cars from them in the past two years. My brother even has an M3 on order ETA September 4th. But aleast I got 1,500 off from all the promotional test drive. (Olympic test drive 1,000 & BMW Apps 500).

I would guess they do this to keep the car on the showroom floor far a while so people can see one. Perhaps build a little hype. It doesn't appear that each dealer received launch cars for demo purposes. Who knows. I suppose if you negotiated down to MSRP you would feel pretty good. LOL.

Exactly. They'll sell you an M5 for MSRP if you order it. This showroom car is for enticing people to order (while making them feel good for paying "only" MSRP), and also in case someone comes in who just has to have the car right now without waiting and doesn't mind spending the extra money to make this happen.

I didn't even pretend to be seriously interested and didn't ask how serious the pricing was, since I'm picking up my ED car next week. But they had another black one in back and I'm sure they would come down on price. Like you said it builds up the hype, and makes MSRP feel like you got a "deal".
