Most of my car documents which came directly from the factory state that my car is a 2012 model year "M1" (I know lots of others also have this kind of documentation) so BMW public relations (or whatever department which got obssessed about the museum piece M1) could go as far as the documentation department did and make it happen anyway; our cars indeed are "2011-2012 model E82 M1"s, period! No big deal and nothing to be shy of also, imo.
Having said that, taking care of labeling into your own hands is always hillarious. There is a M badge at the back already like the Z3 M and Z4 M had in the past and that is more than OK for me, as long as "1M" is a real M car and it definitely is one and also an exceptionally good one, so why would anyone care about having a badge of M1 or 1M or just M or no badge at all, makes no difference. In fact actual M badge tells it all about this car because 1M represents what "M" is supposed to be |

I originally thought BMW made the right decision to save the "1M" nomenclature for the original classic and leave the 1M coupe badging with just an ///M. I have since changed my mind. BMW should have just badged it as an ///M1. I mean if the sacred M3 moniker is being dumped in favor of the M4(for the coupes), I don't see what the big deal is with calling out cars an M1. In the case of this car in MC, it doesn't work for me because the font doesn't match like it does with the M3, M5, M6...

Actually.....I did it too. I took the 1 from a 135 badge and put it behind my ///M. It looks like the picture above in the post. A guy and his son in a 335 came up behind me this past week, and I could read the dad's lips as he said; "Its a M1" as he said it to his son. I've driven BMWs since 1984, and had no problem with putting the "1" on after the ///M. Should have been done in the first place. Besides, for those thinking that BMW will return with a new M1, maybe they should rethink that.....as BMW has just recently registered and trademarked "M10". If you think about it, other than the original M1, BMW should have the M badge on their top model as their top of the line signature edition, not the smallest car in their lineup. Just my 2cents worth.....

And here's another French "M1" 1M. Smaller "1" figure. Also features grey side stripes. Was spotted in Paris.

The real surprise of this last photo from Paris is not the bizarre logo imo. I lived there for 3 years. That guy must be plain crazy in order to leave a 1M parked on those streets. That is way much more crazy than the logo! I want to believe that he/she did it just to take photos of the car parked, like a badge of courage You all know how they enter and exit parking spaces (even if there is none visible) on streets, right? A la bumping cars in amusement parks, they literally create place by hitting surrounding cars in order to enter or exit, they stop when they hear the crashing sound. OK maybe not all of them but it is scary common phenomenon. A visiting friend of mine once made a video out of those hillarious moments as a souvenir from his Paris visit.

Damn. That Fool in france effed up his 1M with those goofy tasteless "motorsport" stickers (I'm not talking about the grey side stripes). What an idiot.
