Engine heat still hot after a few hours
I've got a 2009 328xi with approx 80k km. I live in Toronto and it's early September, yesterday it was 25C (30C with Humidity factor). I came home after a 30 minute drive and I could feel the heat from the engine 2 hours after the car has been in the garage turned off. Is this normal ? Outside temperature is about 25C(with humidity factor) during the day and cooled off to about 20C at 8pm. I do realize that all things being equal, if it's hot and humid out, it will take a while for a car engine to cool down but wondering what is "normal".
Is there something someone can recommend me to check or have a shop to check out ? Should I be worried about the anti-freeze being any good ? Thanks in Advance. |

Completely normal. These cars run pretty hot. Both my fiancee's 328Xi (N51) and my 335i (N54) are warm/hot to the touch after being driven.

It's alarming at first, but normal for my 335.
Even 3-4 hours after parking, the hood is warm and when you open the hood you get a nice face full of couped up heat. Little ovens, these engines are.

A hot motor is the 6.2 Ford just put out, that SOB is still hot after a work day. Its normal for an engine to be hot for quite a while after shutdown.

What I like to do in the summer months is leave the garage door open (or partway open) for a few hours so that there's some ventilation as the car cools off. In the winter it's not a big deal I guess.. (Detroit northern suburbs here, so same climate as Toronto)..

But like others have said. The car is pretty warm hours after I shut it down. Pretty normal. Even have the water pump running for a little while after the car shuts down. Normal as well of course.

Normal. TIP: leave the garage door open just a bit for air to circulate. this helps to cool off.. Thats what I do.

FYI humidity does not affect the temperature of inanimate objects like cars etc.
