What is this at the bottom of the door?
I keep seeing this stain appear at the bottom of the doors on the E90s right where the end of the drivers door, meets the start of the passenger door, and sometimes at the front of the drivers door as well. I rubbed my finger across whatever it was, but it wouldn't come off. This happen to anyone? And does anyone know what it is?

I have been getting that crap in several places for months. It is much worse when it is hot and sunny out.
I think it is some waxy stuff sprayed in the doors as a rust proofer. |

Yep. It's the shipping wax that gets into the water drainage areas. It gradually comes out as water drains when it rains. It's a pain, but VWs are much worse.

Yeah, I managed to get some of it out of the corners of the doors, but still can't get all of it. I still get the drainage on the sides, but its much better now.

I believe it's still called Cosmoline. And yes, it's the wax-like stuff that's sprayed on as a shipping protectant and it gets steam-cleaned off at the VPC. They can never get it all off, and you're seeing what they missed. We all have it.
Cosīmo`line (kozīmo-leen) n. 1. (Chem.) A substance obtained from the residues of the distillation of petroleum, essentially the same as vaseline, but of somewhat stiffer consistency, and consisting of a mixture of the higher paraffines; a kind of petroleum jelly. |

See these pics, you can see the the shipping wax protectorant that the guys are talking about.
Took pics from this description of what happens at VPC/VDC (I love this read and post it as often as I get the chance to ) http://www.e90post.com/vpc/index.asp.htm |

I guess we would rather deal with a little wax than buffing out scratches....anyway it's still a pain to deal with
