Thinking about selling E90 -> E46 M3 or GTO
So I have seriously been contemplating about selling my E90 and getting another car. I love it and all, but the E46 M3 and a Holden Monaro, Pontiac GTO, are so tempting. I would probably get a 2003.5+ M3 or a 2006 GTO. What to do?

Our son had Pontiac Monaro, er Holden GTO. What ever. That is until he was t-boned. Son, OK. Grimace (It was purple) was dead.
The GOAT was a harsh car. Think of it as a 4 seat Corvette. The BMW, we have a E92 328, is pure fineness. It depends on what you want in a car. To ride a PBR bull or a thoroughbred. Our son did not get a BMW with the insurance money. He got a Grumman AA1-B.

Can't knock the e46, I still am in love with the body style. If you can find a mint condition 03 M3, I say go for it. Sadly, it might be pretty hard to find that perfect one. It'll be good if you can slowly look for one while still keeping the e90. Unsure if the financials is there to make that play.

My issue with anything Pontiac is the were discontinued a couple of years ago. The drivetrain will be supported (parts wise) since it's shared with other platforms, but it would suck when the rest of the body/interior parts starting going MIA.....

Not a 335.
E46 M3 or GTO. I have found this M3 and it is optioned almost perfectly, I want sat radio, and under my budget. It's just 300 miles away so I have to be 100% about the E46 M3. http://enthusiastauto.com/qsearch/?i...orm_display=51 |

I don't know why everyone is slamming the GTO as a POS GM car. Unlike most GM products it wasn't strangled by the accountants as it left the production line. And it's not made by UAW shmucks, it's made in Aussie, for whatever that's worth.
The GTO has an LS2 engine, and as every 335er knows, modded LSs are not slow. |

I don't believe that. I don't believe that about a Toyota Camry.
Both cars I'm looking at WILL have been hooned about it. I like the exterior of the GTO because to the average person it's a big, 2-door car. To a car enthusiast they know a stock, 400hp monster was taken out of a Corvette and put in there. Between the BMW badge and styling, the average person will think I'm a cock sitting in the M3. As for reliability and maintenance? It's an M3, that means it's at least 3 times a normal 3 series. But the GTO? Can anyone put give some input? |

I doubt you've ever driven both a GTO and an M3. If you had, you would be able to make your decision very very easily.
In conclusion, ahem, drive them both. If you just want pedal mashing raw torque/power, the GTO will serve you adequately. If you want more than that with a body that doesn't look like POS, get the m3. |

The GTO is great muscle car and very mean sounding but the styling is very bland and almost looks like an over-sized cavalier.
But E46 m3 is considered by many one of the greatest driver cars out there with classic styling. I hope to pick up one myself sometime in the future. Obviously my vote is for the M3

The GTO is a great car and tough as nails too. Wouldn't have to keep up with it nearly as much as an M3.
Yeah, its bland but if you're looking at understated speed, it's a good look. It's a great highway cruiser too. |

guy I know had one.. made it pretty bad ass. had some bolt on parts, intake manifold, big cam, and nitrous.. Low 600hp range with the small shot of gas. That was before he got the procharger for it. fabbed up a lot of custom stuff for it. he was crazy though. He also had a turbo LS1 powered FC RX-7 that was death on wheels. This was supposed to be his relaxing street car lol.
They are not for everyone, and it's got a completely different feel than a BMW. but they can be made extremely fast for a lot less than a BMW. If that's what your after. |

Don't confuse the GTO with the G8. The GTO is the 2 door the G8 is the 4 door re badged Holden Commodore. I'm not a big fan of the looks of the GTO but I think the G8 is sharp looking and has a hell of an engine. Since its been out of production for a few years, if you can find one that hasn't been ragged out it would be a fun car to have. That being said, like most US muscle cars they aren't made taking into account that most roads have curves so if you want to go fast AND turn, go with the BMW.
