Rear brake pads due for service in 2800km?

Not sure if this seems right, I got my my F30 back in April and I'm currently at 10,400km/6222mls and it says that my car is due for service in 2800km for my rear brake pads.

Is this kind of wear and tear normal or would there be something wrong with my original brake pads? My front brake pads say that I still have about 50,000km left on them.

How much of the brake pad is left? Inside compared to outside? Left side compared to right side? Or are you just relying on a message from the car?

I have a 320i Auto F30. My idrive said the brake pads needed to be serviced in 19.000km (front) . My F30 has now done 11.000km's.

Went to the dealer and had them take a look at it. Now its been reset to 31000km service.....

No way the pads should need replacing at that point.

Either theres something mechanically wrong with the brakes, or the sensor is funked. You should be able to look at the actual caliper and see how much pad is remaining.

The rears on my last car lasted 95,000 miles, and still had 2-4mm of pad left.

Yeah rears can go 50k miles easily unless you're braking really hard all the time. Even with really hard use, I'd expect at least 20k miles.

Just stick your hands through the spokes in the rear wheels and check for yourself.

My '07 E90 went to the dealer 3 separate times for the brake wear sensors telling me it was time to have them serviced. It was just an annoying glitch.

I swapped my pads at 45000 km for cool carbons along with new rotors and still had plenty of life in the oem pads.

go to your dealer if you want the message fixed. Just took in our X3 that has 15K miles on it(2012) and they adjusted it because they said there was something wrong with the software saying the brakes needed replacing sooner than they really do. I am guessing its the same issue on the F30.

This could be it. Well thought.

But don't stick your hand through the spokes immediately after driving hard.
Unless you like eating your own KFC fingers....

Bump for info. Would like to see photos of worn out pads with low mileage.

Found this old thread via serach and thought I would post my question here...

I have 2012 335i and had it in for initial service recently at 14,700 miles.

There is a note in the report that says:
CBS data shows rear brakes due in 2858 miles, client had 14,701 miles, inspect and advise.

Then it says:
Rear brakes at 11mm

SA never mentioned anything, so not sure if 11mm means the alert was incorrect. I would think so if it means I have that much pad left, ~ 0.43 in. but I don't know starting point and when they need to be replaced.

You can replace them when the pad material is the same thickness as the backing plate, as a rule of thumb.

I am at the Dealer now with 8,600 kilometres and need the front and back brake pads replaced due to rust on the rotors wearing out the pads. Does that make sense ?

No way for 2800km, unless you go to a track every weekend. My dealer said F30 has some issue with the system. If you take your car to the dealership, they will probably just reset the system.

I had a good amount of fun during 1st year with F30 with a lot of caynon driving, and my pads got replaced at the dealership at 8800 miles. For normal driving, they should last at least 20,000 miles.

Agree with above. 2800 is way too fast unless you were tracking the car.

Although lots of theories abound I guess the next question is why is your car doing that while others don't. Maybe a faulty sensor?

Just took my 328i in for service with 30,500 miles. The on-board computer told me that I needed oil service, brake fluid service, and system check service. The front and rear brake service indicators said I had 1400 miles remaining. I decided to take it in to see if they could just do all of the services at one time as opposed to making two separate trips.

The SA told me that he did the oil, brake fluid, air filter (cabin), and system check was completed but the front and rear brakes had 10mm and 9mm, respectively, remaining. He said the "software" had to updated and the brake sensors were getting a false reading.

I have not picked up the vehicle yet to actually read what the remaining mileage/time is for the brakes after the update.
