2009 335xi rears of 255 vs 265

From what I am reading around here, the 255/35R18 8.5" fits the rear just fine (naturally) but that a 265/30R18 9.0" is jusssst enough to rub without rolling the fenders during full travel?

2013 BMW M3  [10.00]
2015 BMW M4  [0.00]
2013 BMW F30  [0.00]
2014 BMW F22  [0.00]

What offset? Depending on the offset a 265/35/18 should be fine in the rear. 30 profile is a bit short.

Actually, I'm new to all this, so my answer is I do not know.

My dealer told me the style 287 for my year is/was not available, but instead suggested style 189; the rear they said was 255/35r18 8.5" and would fit. I did not ask what is the offset or if the 265 would fit, but the few posts I have seen on here with a 2009 335xi and 265's in the rear people are talking about fenders rubbing.

If I look for aftermarket rims, should the manufacturer be able to tell me what offset I need with their rim and 265 rear?

Too tall for a non-M car and would likely rub.

Would that be solved with a 265/35r18?

Gary@TireRack: If I wanted to run 265/35r18 rears, rather than 255/35r18, how wide of a rim should I use and at what offset?

For the most part, those with LCI E9x's will use an 18x9.5" ET35 in the rear and depending on the type tire used will be on the verge of rubbing. The rubbing is usually nothing a simple fender roll won't fix. Ultimately a rub free rear set up will be the 18x9.5" ET43 wheel. Both of these wheels in the EC-7 model use the same profile 2 wheel face and would look the same on the car.

Fitting a 275/35/18 on the front of an E9x is very tough with out excessive negative camber and fender modifications. A good square set up for an E9x would consist of the 18x9" ET31 with a 245/40/18 tire or a 255/35/18 if you have negative camber achieved through camber plates or pulled alignment pins on your stock strut mounts.

9"-10" wheels. Offsets will vary but generally will be in the range of 30-45mm

Thanks, but I think I am going to stick with 225/40r18 and 255/35r18.

Dang, The 255 on the 18x9 still looks streched to me. I want a square setup so I can rotate. I will not be running agressive cambers, not a style for me.

What do you mean by "stretched"?

Wheel is a bit wider than the tire. Im old school I like some bulge of tire or at least flush with the wheel.

Oh ok. The 255 wide tire (255mm) translates to almost exactly 10" (10.0394 inches) so anything less than a 10" rim is going to have the opposite look...an 8.5", 9" or 9.5" rim IS going to have a little bulge of tire wider than the rim.

Unless the tires are of a specific design that the sidewall treads are angled inward a little to offset this.
